can't explain it but always hope it's the ninky nonk coming through the hedge and not that hideoues farty floaty thing

I prefer the pinky ponk to the ninky nonk, infinitely. It makes such a lovely fart noise. DS loves it. The tombliboo waving game from the pinky ponk (complete with waving Haa-hoos - I love their french horn theme tune) is probably my favourite episode.

As an aside, has anyone seen the episose which has the Wottingers in it (not just in the dance at the end)? The CBeebies website says there was one, but I've never seen it.

Caz10 · 20/04/2009 21:25

I have! A couple in fact! There is one where the Pontipines are meant to be going out for a picnic with them but can't find them so they eat all the food anyway!

Also, they go back and forward knocking on each others doors in another one.

hmmm. . gets coat...

georgimama · 20/04/2009 21:26

Really? See, this is what I get for going to work, I miss the Wottinger action. Cross now.

mamamila · 20/04/2009 21:27

haha we all HATE the pinky ponk in our house too! well me, dh and ds (16), dd (1.8) seems to like it.
i don't know why, maybe it's the farting noises and the annoying way it hovers along whereas the ninky nonk is all action
we all shout at the tv in disappointment when it's the pinky ponk
i can't understand why the narrator always says "OH NO it's the ninky nonk"
i'm so glad it's not just us who can't stand the pinky ponk! i can't wait to tell dh and ds!!

Stefka · 20/04/2009 21:28

There was one where they waved to the Wottingers at various places in the garden. DH and I ran through from the kitchen to see it once we realised the Wottingers were actually making an appearance.

spicemonster · 20/04/2009 21:29

I have also seen those two Caz. More than once

My theory about the seat belts is that the ninkynonk goes upside down but the pinkyponk doesn't. But it is all the crashing into walls that makes my DS cry.

wiggletastic - thanks for your concern but I get plenty of cuddles Just not when a favourite programme is on!

FatFree · 20/04/2009 21:32

Ninky nonk juice and wife swapping!! Surely this programme must be warping your childs tiny minds!

And whoever thought of the name Makka Pakka (sp)? i had a very embarrassed woman asking me for the indian character when i was at work the other day!!

Caz10 · 20/04/2009 21:34

Ah you just need to get Sky+ georgimama - I work FT as well but the Sky tapes me an episode every day to watch with dd when I get home !!

I get motion sickness when the camera shows the landscape whooshing past from the windows of the NN. In the PP it's all slow and floaty and nice.

Baconsarnie · 20/04/2009 21:56

Caz, I prefer the pinky ponk too. You are not alone. I also would love to try the pinky ponk juice. They all seem to have a great time on it. I've never seen the Wottingers, but DP has and says they're just as irritating as the pontipines. I also worry about Makka Pakka sleeping all alone in that cave. I need to get a life.

thumbwitch · 20/04/2009 22:00

caz I think the reason they get seatbelted into the ninky nonk is because of its peculiar habits of travelling vertically and even upside down; whereas the pinky ponk just has a rotten sense of direction, it never changes orientation.

I can't stand the farty, boob-like thing, myself but DS doesn't seem to mind it.

wiggletastic · 20/04/2009 22:02

This is the most surreal AIBU ever.....

Caz10 · 20/04/2009 22:07

Oh his wee bed looks so hard and uncomfortable doesn't it?!

georgimama · 20/04/2009 22:12

I love makka pakka (or "Nakka Nakka" as DS calls him) his situation is filled with pathos really, poor lamb. He is smaller than Iggle Piggle and Upsy Daisy, and feels to me like the little tag-along, occasionally they patronise him by allowing him to play with them, but all the poor little bugger has got for comfort is his stones. Makes me want to cry.

spicemonster · 20/04/2009 22:21

No, don't feel sorry for makka pakka! He has his ogpog and his uffpuff and his washing faces thing (although that isn't very hygienic is it - never gets washed between uses) and he is all cosy in his cave. I do find it slightly alarming that he has to hide his ogpog behind a big stone when he goes to bed. Clearly he thinks iggle piggle is a bit light-fingered

ShellingPeas · 20/04/2009 22:27

I am SO pleased that when my DCs were small there was only the Teletubbies and I didn't have to entertain conversations about Ninky Nonks or Pinky Ponks or anything else alterative... would have driven me even more insane...

BettySwollux · 20/04/2009 22:42

PMSL so much at this thread.
For the record, I also prefer the Ninky Nonk, it's just a bit more exiting isnt it?
Couldnt stand the bloody teletubbies.
Tweenies pissed me off somewhat too.

BettySwollux · 20/04/2009 22:48

Also, has anyone noticed that when the Ninky Nonk goes past Igglepiggle or Upsy Daisy, that it's smaller than them, but later they all get on it and it's bloody MASSIVE?
WTF is THAT about?
DH says it's his fave "As it transends the whole space/time continium concept" eh?

Caz10 · 20/04/2009 22:52

oh don't get me started on issues of size and scale in the Night Garden!!

NOTHING makes sense in that respect and it's the only bit i really don't like!

Twinklemegan · 20/04/2009 22:55

There is nothing irrational about hating anything about ITNG - IMO. I just worry about the people who thought it all up. And I too find the relative sizes of things very disturbing - but then the whole show is pretty disturbing.

silkcushion · 20/04/2009 22:56

had to check my thread before bed.

Have been watching real grown up telly with DH but told him I was not in a freakish pinky ponk hating minority.

Now am actually quite that we have two pinky ponky lovers in our midst.

At xmas when MIL chirped up about ITNG I was surprised to find she watched it as she NEVER looks after our dd or any other children. DH and I were frankly taking the piss about ehr watching cbeebies when my dad pipes up and admits he watches it from time to time too. Apparently they both loved the cheerful music and the tittifers!

My new theory is that it is aimed at under 5s and over 70s. Wonder how many other oldies watch it secretly and, naturally , whether or not they hate the pinky ponk?

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 20/04/2009 22:58

sadly I fell for the theme music the first time I heard it - it lodged in my brain and refuses to shift. But it's useful for putting DS to bed at night - we do the song and the boat in the hand and he knows he's going to sleep. Sometimes he'll do the boat himself.
Apart from that I find it all very disturbing too, including the amount of flatulence involved.

Twinklemegan · 20/04/2009 23:00

TW - I'll give you that. I love the beginning and end. It's such a shame about the rest of it.

thumbwitch · 20/04/2009 23:02

actually silkcushion, my mum was a big fan of the Tellytubbies (which I loathed) - she was in her late 50s at the time! She liked the yellow one so much that my sis actually bought her a toy of it .

I can't bear the tittifers - infernal row!

silkcushion · 20/04/2009 23:08

The music has definitely invaded my head too. love the theme tune and I also like the tittifers - sorry

picmaestress · 20/04/2009 23:22

Best. Thread. Ever.

I've been laughing out loud for at least 5 minutes.

Everyone knows the Wottingers are weird.

Pinky Ponk every time.
