to hang out my washing in the evening in the anticipation of good weather tomorrow...?

I've just hung out a load of washing on the line because it's easier to do while DH has got the baby and the toddler, even though it's 7.20pm - I'm hoping it'll dry tomorrow in the warm sun and I won't have to be the one putting it out while trying to protect the baby from the toddler

Anyone else ever done this?

I have also been known to leave washing out overnight when it's got rained on in the afternoon, knowing it's meant to be nice the next day so should get dry again

I am so tempted to do the same as I have a huge basket of wet washing here. Done about 7 loads today.

AnyFucker · 19/04/2009 19:13

I do this

what is the problem?

MuffinBaker · 19/04/2009 19:13

DH said no as it will get all insects on it.

choufleur · 19/04/2009 19:14

i do it all the time. why wouldn't you?

merryandmad · 19/04/2009 19:15

I have done this. I have also put the washing out really early in the morning (whilst it was still dark)- mind soggy trouser legs from wet grass then though if you choose this option though!

DanJARMouse · 19/04/2009 19:15

I dont, but thats because we live right on the coast next to a very busy port, and the crap that the port pumps out at night gets all over the clothes.

If I lived further inland, then no worries, i would.

Milliways · 19/04/2009 19:16

I do this too

MintyyAeroEgg · 19/04/2009 19:17

Oh I love the summer when you can hang washing out any time of day and not have to bring it in later safe in the knowledge that it very probably won't get rained on over night.

My mother thinks leaving washing out overnight is "common" he he.

Mind you, if my washing gets rained on I do put it through another rinse cycle in the machine and re-hang. I can't put aside thoughts of acid rain.

badgermonkey · 19/04/2009 19:17

I do it - I'm not sure what harm 'insects' could do to your clothes anyway! I've left many a load out overnight and no insect has ever messed with me as a result.

choufleur · 19/04/2009 19:17

I don't get insects on my washing muffin (well they're aren't any when i bring it in dry).

Casserole · 19/04/2009 19:17

This has NEVER occurred to me, but I just might join you!!!

MIAonline · 19/04/2009 19:19

I do because I know by the time I get around to putting it out in the morning, I will have missed most of the sun.

Actually I am lying, my DH is outside hanging it out as I type

MuffinBaker · 19/04/2009 19:20

When I have left washing out all night by accident is has had insects crawling all over it and it is pretty yukky to have htem all over the carpet when folding up the washing.

choufleur · 19/04/2009 19:21

I'm a slatern minty - if it rains a bit i just leave it.

greatwhiteshark · 19/04/2009 19:22

Yay! I'm not loopy afterall! Well at least not about the washing .

Rain softens clothes btw - I've often hoped for rain on my non-conditioned nappies so they get softer

Phoenix4725 · 19/04/2009 19:22

i put mine out tonight as well

tillyfernackerpants · 19/04/2009 19:27

I've just brought my washing in but it wasn't quite dry, maybe I should go & hang back up again?

Minty, my mum says its common as well!

LittleMissNorty · 19/04/2009 19:30

I'm often out at 11pm hanging out the washing....my neighbours probably think I'm mad

Not only is it DC free, if its been a hot sticky day, its usually lovely and cool and peaceful out there

YanknCock · 19/04/2009 19:33

I'd love to do this, but when I've done it by accident the clothes always smell weird. They even smell weird when left out a few hours after dark. Sort of musty, can't quite describe it.

I've gotten the weird smell living in SE London and in Cheshire, so don't think it's just the area.

If you can get away with it, I'd go for it!

I don't

To avoid the baby/toddler thing I have a baby jail travel cot to protect DD3

MrsMcCluskey · 19/04/2009 19:36

I was thinking of doing the same OP.
I have one load in and one to go and I know I wont have the time to put it out in the morning!

MrsMagooo · 19/04/2009 19:37

I do it all the time - I currently have a load on the line now that only got hung out about an hour ago

Lovemyshoes · 19/04/2009 19:37

I've got a final load to hang out, but to be honest, I'm a bit dubious as to whether it will get snaffled.

CatHerder · 19/04/2009 19:41

If I leave mine out at dusk it gets covered in tiny little black itchy crawly things. Can't remember what they're called - we get plagues of them in the summer. Dd had them in her hair once and I had a fun time explaining to the hairdresser that lice are bigger than that and look completely different

I can put washing out after dark and leave it, but that's a little strange to do.
