to hang out my washing in the evening in the anticipation of good weather tomorrow...?

I've just hung out a load of washing on the line because it's easier to do while DH has got the baby and the toddler, even though it's 7.20pm - I'm hoping it'll dry tomorrow in the warm sun and I won't have to be the one putting it out while trying to protect the baby from the toddler

Anyone else ever done this?

I have also been known to leave washing out overnight when it's got rained on in the afternoon, knowing it's meant to be nice the next day so should get dry again

Lovemyshoes · 19/04/2009 20:03

I've just dogdged the midges and hung the final load of washing out. I am now up to date with the laundry

gymllfixit · 19/04/2009 20:14

I have been known to peg out my washing, in the morning before work, in the rain if they have forecast a dry afternoon. The neighbours must think I'm barking if they see me.

brazenhussy · 19/04/2009 20:22

This has been very interesting to me because I always used to do this until I was listening to a programme on the radio about combatting depression and it said never to hang your clothes on the line overnight as they attract negative ions (sp?) and as a result can make you feel depressed

As unlikely as this sounds I haven't been prepared to take the chance as get low mood fairly easily

MrsMuddle · 19/04/2009 20:25

I always do this. And if it rains, I leave it out till it's dry - even if it's hanging out there for a week.

bellavita · 19/04/2009 20:25

I could never imagine hanging clean washing out for it to get all the damp horrible air and bugs over it.

Thunderduck · 19/04/2009 20:27

There's nothing nicer than sheets and towels that have been outside in the sunshine all day.

Breizhette · 19/04/2009 20:33

I didn't use to do it as my grandmother used to say that the moon would bleach the clothes. DH convinced me that it was rubbish and I am now a convert.

bellavita · 19/04/2009 20:36

Thunder - I am all for that, I have had four loads of washing out today (including two lots of sheets) but I just couldn't leave it out overnight.

spokette · 19/04/2009 20:39

I will get up at 5.30am to hang mine out before I get ready for work and before the twins are up.

4andnotout · 19/04/2009 20:42

I have just put my 5th and final load of washing out in the hope it will be dry tommorow, the nappies are pegged to an airer and i will bring them in when i go to bed and leave them in the front room where hopefully they will finish drying ready for the morning

choufleur · 19/04/2009 20:56

LOL at the moon bleeching clothes!

Mspontipine · 19/04/2009 20:57

I once found something in ds's jeans pocket when getting them off line. Scrunchy thought it was a sweet wrapper. It was a curled up bee!!
It just flew off!!!

spottypushedherbabyout · 19/04/2009 21:04

I have same issue with baby v's toddler. Nappies are out....could use a bit of moon bleach actually

mawbroon · 19/04/2009 21:08

I sometimes hang clothes out at night, yes. And leave them in the rain, unless they were almost dry (or I am out). Or hang them out in the rain if the forecast is good for later.

So does that make me a slattern then? Or a forward thinking optimist?

JetLi · 19/04/2009 21:25

YANBU - pegging out washing & reloading the washer is one of my nocturnal activities when I can't sleep. Tend to only do it in the spring and summer though, but only because it's too cold a 2am in winter to be stumbling around on the back garden in the dark

zanz1bar · 19/04/2009 21:40

i used to leave washing ouut at night but DH gets bad hayfever and apparently pollen drifts down with the cool night air so covering the washing.

i don't notice the difference but DH does so only dry his stuff , sheets, and towels in the mornings.

Medee · 19/04/2009 21:51

My mother thinks leaving washing out overnight is "common" he he.

I have no idea why, but I do too! My neighbour leaves theirs out overnight quite often. My mum instilled in me a sense of judging someone by their washing - how white it was, how well hung it was. I'm not proud of it, but there you go!

I would hang mine up first thing before I go to work, even if it isn't sunny yet, and bring it in when I get home.

soopermum1 · 19/04/2009 22:52

I do it all the time. I quite like 'Laundrey Roulette'though ido check the forecast for the next day before I do it

MintyyAeroEgg · 21/04/2009 19:30

I am deffo leaving mine hanging out tonight! tee hee.

And looking forward to getting a couple of loads dry tomorrow. Naturally I will be hanging them out at the bottom end of my garden, where its sunnier, and funnily enough, I can have a quick shufty at the two LABOURER/GARDENER types who are making over my neighbours garden .
