dh gets all huffy puffy if we haven't planned a meal

Granted he does loads of cooking and planning but sometimes it's nice to just eat on the hoof ,not have a proper meal .

What is the probelm with not planning a proper dinner for one farkin night?
Obviously one for us would get 6yr old ds's dinner for him

I am now cooking a curry as I am essentially a good peace keeper.

I am so fed up with the relentless meal planning .

brimfull · 11/04/2009 16:41

yes that's exactly what I mean

do you make seperate meals for you 2 and ds every night then?

ilovemydogandMrObama · 11/04/2009 16:43

DP is the same. Think it's the highlight of their day....

oxocube · 11/04/2009 16:44

NU at all. I often cook for the kids but then we end eating bread/cheese/wine as we're not really hungry. Dh usually away through the week anyway so I can get away with this. When he comes home, he's often sick of hotel food so is happy with snacks or a take-away or even toast and marmite!

I love cooking but like everything, it gets dull if you have to do it all the time

LaTrucha · 11/04/2009 16:49

DH and I don't like having a big meal at night anymore. We don't digest it well at all.

I'm beginning to worry if I'll ever get to make those traditional meals of my childhood. Mmm shepherd's pie!

Healthier to eat more suring the day and less at night. Would this sway him?

I agrre - it does get dull if it is all the time .. I used to do it. I loved it but it becames tedious to HAVE to do it.

ridingjoker · 11/04/2009 16:51

i chased the dc round the house with a whole sea bass tonight before we all stuffed it full of goodies and stuck it in oven .

wild child eating seabass for us tonight

This is one of the great things about having left my x. If we want cheese on toast and a banana, that's dinner.

my x seemed to think I should be childcarer, housekeeper, restauranteur.... and he was the critic of course. KNOB. I did tell him it wasn't a hotel, and that not every meal was supposed to be absolutely gorgeous. It always fell on deaf ears.

YANBU at all! Luckily my dh is happy with fush fingers and chips for example so doesn;t have to be a gourmet meal every night. but he does 'want' a cooked/hot meal. which I do not think it is unreasonable from his point of view but it is for me as I love to eat cereals sometimes or a piece of toast. We'll all be slimmer as well.

YANBU.
Today is the first time I am cooking this whole week.
I am only bunging chicken and some potatoes in the oven!

GossipMonger · 11/04/2009 17:03

To have egg and beans and toast which is ds2's fave is great for all of us! I always have scrambled egg on toast when DH is away.

Could you not suggest that on a couple of nights a week you have something that is not so difficult to prepare? Will he eat soup for dinner or does it have to be meat and 2 veg type things?

Tis a chore I agree. Nowt wrong with fishfingers and beans!

What about a night when you just have bread and olives and cheese and wine?

HeadFairy · 11/04/2009 17:03

YANBU at all. I'm sure this is one of the reasons why dh and I are a good stone heavier than when we met. I almost never had dinner when I was single, ryvitas and philidelphia was my snack of choice, but now we have a proper dinner most nights of the week. It's not only a faff but making me fat

foxinsocks · 11/04/2009 17:07

blardy hell, where do you find the time?

I think it sounds tiring cooking like that all the time. ALso think you look forward to 'proper' meals a bit more if you intersperse them with beans on toast and pizza you just shove in etc.

sorry was preparing the curry as he's taken dd out on a driving lesson

he is quite happy to do the cooking,he doesn't expect me to do it at all, part of the problem is he loves cooking

just pisses me off that he isn't happy with a snack meal occassionally

we always eat together as a family-no way either of us is cooking twice

YANBU.
I am the food provider as I'm a lone parent but sometime we have beans on toast or noodles with whatever's lying about the fridge, or freezer dinner which DD(7) makes for us.
If he wants a proper dinner, tell him to make it him self on the nights you don't want to.

brimfull · 11/04/2009 17:13

good to know I am not being unreasonable

tis an ongoing niggle

OP posts:
LaTrucha · 11/04/2009 17:14

Go on holiday to Spain. It's a whole new take on dinner. They don't really have it!

foxinsocks · 11/04/2009 17:14

they are the most annoying niggles I think, the ongoing type

foxinsocks · 11/04/2009 17:16

though if you do get fed up with him, we can swap for a week and you can have my beans-on- toast dh and I'll have your cordon-bleu dh

brimfull · 11/04/2009 17:18

it's a deal

I'll pack his bag for next week lol

YANBU at all.

About once a week I do eggs or beans or sth on toast.

Once in a while I do absolutely nothing for supper and people have to forrage in the kitchen and have whatever they fancy. It's usually after a few days of eating, so everyone loves it. Dh's face lights up when he realises he can have marmalade sandwiches for supper .
