dh gets all huffy puffy if we haven't planned a meal

Granted he does loads of cooking and planning but sometimes it's nice to just eat on the hoof ,not have a proper meal .

What is the probelm with not planning a proper dinner for one farkin night?
Obviously one for us would get 6yr old ds's dinner for him

I am now cooking a curry as I am essentially a good peace keeper.

I am so fed up with the relentless meal planning .

duffy -the foraging nights are exactly what we need.
I am going to suggest that!

What do they do in Spain then?

GossipMonger · 11/04/2009 17:24

We do a forage night too which is fun!

There were lots of bits of leftovers and so we had a complete mishmash. Ended up with chicken in white wine stew, bulgar wheat, chilli, sweetcorn, salad and garlic bread!

Kids loved it.

In our house DH is the one who doesn't want proper dinner sometimes. I get quite huffy and point out that while he had full-English for breakfast at work, plus packed lunch and he hit the vending machine at least once, I had toast, a rushed sandwich at lunch and I'm breastfeeding, and he'll eat my beautiful dinner and enjoy it, dammit!

I do organise a couple of easy meals a week though, for days when I'm completely knackered.

Lunch is the main meal in Spain, then usually bits and bobs - tapas if out, leftovers, cheese, ham, bread and salad if at home. Maybe a 'French' omlette; maybe soup.

It means less hassle, especially with children, as if they don't like something they cna pick something else.

I think you perhaps need an agreement that on the nights he wants a "proper" dinner then he will cook it (you mention he does cook anyway). Then I guess you can choose whether to eat with him or make your own pot noodle/paste sandwich/toast topper or whatever.

Imo everyone is a winner then. Presumably he would make more than one portion and the spare portion (s) could be frozen for another day.

YANBU btw. However I am a pig have a healthy appetite so would like the larger portion given half the chance.

Countingthegreyhairs · 11/04/2009 20:52

YANBU. I sympathise. Completely. My dh is exactly the same (and I am overweight now too). Sigh. It's a complete drag frankly.

I had a word with him and suggested a foraging night twice a week.
LOl he looked horrified.

"But if I'm cooking a meal why don't you want it as well"

I just said I'd rather have a snacky meal and he can do whatever he likes.

He is brilliant at cooking but a bit ott every day of the week.
