so rude of her, has she tried emailing you ?

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 06/04/2009 13:14

it is a bit early. I would have asked her to call back after 9am.

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 06/04/2009 13:17

Is the caller in the same country as you? Because s/he might have got the time muddled if not.
But I would have done the same I expect.

motherlovebone · 06/04/2009 13:18

we have been emailing back and forth. she later emailed that she was disgusted by my rudeness and ignorance...she is just so definate i wondered AIBU??

It's difficult to say if YABU or not without more info. What's led up to the phonecall for example?

Nancy66 · 06/04/2009 13:23

that is an unreasonable time to call somebody - especially a person you don't know about a petty matter.

9am to 9pm is reasonable. Anything outside of those hours isn't.

LuluisgoingtobeanAunty · 06/04/2009 13:29

have you been rude? what is the dispute? need more info

motherlovebone · 06/04/2009 13:36

I should love to tell the details! i sold a barbour jaket for £67+postage.
buyer disputed the size, its a 14, labelled and IMO.
she filed a dispute with paypal saying item sig not as described! that it was labelled a 14 but more like a 12.
i said on the listing i would not accept returns, but as a goodwill gesture said she could return it.
she wants me to pay postage. i offered half.
she telephoned at 7:30am, not on my ebay contact number....im sure im not unreasonable on the other counts, just wanted to clarify re phonecall.

Jacket!

southeastastra · 06/04/2009 13:39

you can't say you don't accept returns.

motherlovebone · 06/04/2009 13:43

but AIBU southeastastra? that is the question!

No - you were/are not being rude or unreasonable. In fact, perhaps you are being too reasonable which is why this buyer thinks she can take the mick.

I would reply to her email, re-stating your (generous)offer to accept the return on terms you have already outined, but that you are not willing to enter any more discussion about it. (At any time of day.)

wotulookinat · 06/04/2009 13:52

Oooh it's hard to give a definite YANBU/YABU answer.
She is trying to return the jacket for a reason that, IMO, isn't valid. It is labelled as a 14, so it is a 14.
She was wrong to ring so early, but maybe a curt 'please ring back after 9am' would have been better.

SerendipitousHarlot · 06/04/2009 13:55

This is difficult!

She shouldn't have called you so early. But you shouldn't have hung up either.

But I'm confused about the dispute. If it was labelled a 14, then it is a 14. It's not your fault that she's too big to fit in it

kickassangel · 06/04/2009 13:56

astra, why can't you say that you don't accept returns? LOADS of ebay says that.

wotulookinat · 06/04/2009 14:05

My listings all say that I don't accept returns - it's an option when you create the listing.

motherlovebone · 06/04/2009 14:08

buyer is a fruitcake i suspect...i have now refunded and buyer accepted, then buyer followed it up with an email asking for more postage as she would like to leave posotive feedback

OP posts:
Sherida · 06/04/2009 14:18

Seriously? She's asked for more postage so she can leave positive feedback? Ya got her there then, that's called holding feedback hostage and is reportable to ebay. If you feel like being trouble ;).

WelshSuprise · 06/04/2009 14:26

yes report her to ebay. She's trying it on. Explain whats happened and ebay will send her an e-mail. And you are well within your rights to not accept returns. Its only business users that are required by law to allow you to return items.

wotulookinat · 06/04/2009 15:21

Have you refunded her before you have received it back?

MrsMagooo · 06/04/2009 15:25

Astra eBay gives you the option when setting up your lsiting to select whether you accept returns or not so why on Earth can't you state that in the listing??????

MLB 7:30am is a daft time to phone about something so trvial, but perhaps hanging up wasn't the right thing to do but hey at the time & being half asleep I may have done much the same!

I think you've been more then fair with your offer to the buyer.

southeastastra · 06/04/2009 15:42

blimey that's what i always thought why the ???? face

MrsMagooo · 06/04/2009 15:51

Because I'm intrigued as to why you said you're not allowed to state no returns? Wondered if I'd missed something or if eBay had moved the goal posts yet again!
