I am wiping away tears of laughter to write this!!

Over supper, a discussion on computer memory arose, and ds1 was trying to explain how it's not the size of a hard drive that matters - and I said, "Yes - that's what your dad is always telling me!!" Now he's saying I was rude - was I??

Tell him to lighten up its funny.

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 04/04/2009 22:06

rofl....

hereidrawtheline · 04/04/2009 22:08

I laughed earlier about "daddy's big drill"

I am always laughing at things like that!

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 04/04/2009 22:09

lol...your minds work like mine then....i.e. one track...

Shambolic · 04/04/2009 22:13

ROFL.

DH and DD (18 mo) were doing some painting in the garden earlier and DD split the water pot.

I said "Oh have you split fluid everywhere? You take after your father" and wandered round the side of the house giggling.

tell your DH to lighten up

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 04/04/2009 22:15

You all have dirty minds. Dirty minds I tell you!!

You should tell him it's not the size that matters, it's the performance.

Shambolic · 04/04/2009 22:17

I have found that some of the larger hard drives can get over-heated and shut down prematurely...

Shambolic · 04/04/2009 22:17

And like fluffybunny says, it also depends on what you're using it for....

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 04/04/2009 22:18

Larger drives don't work properly then. I have found that smaller drives have to work very hard.

hereidrawtheline · 04/04/2009 22:25

well I for one like a good big drilling.

Shambolic · 04/04/2009 22:27

I once got a nice new very large hard drive and had real trouble accomodating it in my base unit.

In the end I had to call it a day and replace it with a more modestly sized one, which serves me very well.

fledtoscotland · 04/04/2009 22:43

psml

glad you lot all have minds in the gutter like me

salome64 · 04/04/2009 22:50

The problem with too much ram...

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 04/04/2009 23:29

I bet all these names were made up by blokes with a small hard drive, no ram, gets overheated too quickly and shuts down prematurely. Beats talking about the size of cars and shoes!

Stayingsunnygirl · 05/04/2009 12:07

Ohhh - I feel very embarrassed now - this was meant to be an attempt to start a fun thread, and I was being tongue in cheek about him saying I was rude - I am really, really sorry to all those who took me seriously.

But to the rest of you - minds in the gutter - I love you!!! And I suppose I should be glad we have a hard drive, not an old-fashioned three-and-a-half inch floppy!

If you find it's not enough, you can always buy a spare one that you can plug in.

Shambolic · 05/04/2009 14:11

@ floppy!

Anyone tried to fit more than one hard drive in at a time? I have heard that for some people one hard drive isn't big enough for their needs and so they fit an extra one in the same slot.

Sounds complicated and tricky to me but I'd be interested to hear of anyone's experiences.

Portoeufino · 05/04/2009 15:30

Well we've done this - but I must admit in different slots! DH is very good at this sort of thing.

Stayingsunnygirl · 05/04/2009 16:19

I knew it wouldn't be long before someone brought up bumsex!!! I was innocent and uncorrupted before I found mumsnet!

Portoeufino · 05/04/2009 19:02

Bum sex? Sorry i thought we were talking about computers!

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 05/04/2009 19:34

erm....my mind is that deep in the gutter that I have read all messages on this thread in that kinda way...never occurred to me that anyone was taling about pc's...lol....

Shambolic · 05/04/2009 20:23

I was definitely talking about computers.

Liskey · 05/04/2009 20:26

Laughing at these - but yes you could get an external hard drive to connect to the pc

Portoeufino · 05/04/2009 21:45

You can buy all sorts of things to fit into the slot you know! I once went to PC world and told the guy I needed to fill my slot and he was very helpful and accommodating! People always say the service is shit there too. That wasn't my experience!

Stayingsunnygirl · 06/04/2009 12:01

Don't you have to check that whatever goes in the slot is compatible with your software??
