Well I am but is it just me or is this verging on just wanting more publicity?

In one of the daily rags today it stated that Jade Goody has made a photo album with letters and things in to help her sons remember the best times, then it says it's going to be released publically to raise money for cancer charities.

Now I know that is a good thing blah de blah but surely the fact that it was for her sons to remember her by and that there are letters directly written for them surely it should be the one thing that should be kept private for them to cherish?

At the end of the day there is a book coming out and her clothes are being auctioned to raise money so surely this one little thing could be the boys memories and not the publics.

I know I am being unreasonable because it has nothing at all to do with me but those poor boys deserve some sort of privacy to remember their mum.

How long will it last?
So a few girls went a did a smear. So what?
It is sad and pathetic that a woman needed to die a public money grabbing death for a few girls to go and do a smear.

So their smear was probably ok. They may go and have one in another 10, 20 years.

And two months down the line, Jade will be forgotten, and girls will not do their smear.

It is just a phase.

Rhubarb · 01/04/2009 13:52

blondie - if you've had one cancer scare already, and then after your smear you get letters telling you that the results were abnormal and you needed to go in, would you ignore them?

I'm due a smear but I'm not going in just yet. I'll wait until all the fuss has died down because I don't want them to think I'm going because of the 'Jade effect'.

mumof2andabit · 01/04/2009 13:53

If the money is going to charity then honestly why does anyone have a problem? Its not our problem to have iyswim.

pollycazalet · 01/04/2009 13:54

Well we know that lots of people responded to the story in the way you did Peachy - smear statistics are up. But that was as a result of the story about Jade, rather than a result of anything she did. That's all. And I am certainly not condemning her for not doing anything - as I said the woman was dying.

Walkingwiththighosaurs · 01/04/2009 13:56

She's dead, you lot are all alive, count your blessings and let her rest in peace. I cannot believe some of you are still bitching about the poor girl, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Peachy · 01/04/2009 13:58

but theattendance wish showsat least support. Of course she didnt set out to do anything- but if other women benefit and no doubt cancer charities income in achallenging fiscal environment (as I suspect will be another outcome) then many people will have benefitted in the long run won't they?

Jade was clearl never going to set the world alight with hr intellect / fundraising but shecouldhave chose to dopess- sell the book for her kids, not plan to attend the smear event (and her non attendance was the only news coverage it got at all).

Peachy · 01/04/2009 13:58

chosen to do less

sorry

blondie80 · 01/04/2009 13:59

rhubarb, i have been on the receiving end of a negligent gp, and have had cancerous cells removed that were found thanks to a smear test.
although it was no thanks to my gp, and more thanks to the fact i have private medical insurance and when the results 'came to light' eventually i was able to be seen the same week, rather than the 4 months 'urgent' nhs list.

Rhubarb · 01/04/2009 14:00

Well trust me, her GP was not negligent. They tried to get her in sooner to do tests but she ignored their letters.

blondie80 · 01/04/2009 14:02

whatever.

Rhubarb · 01/04/2009 14:05

Yes I believe that's what she probably said.

mamadiva · 01/04/2009 14:12

Sorry not appropriate but LOL at Rhubarbs last comment

You don't ahve to pretend to like someone just because they are dead it si not the way it should be.

No one is bitching about her in general, I am bitching about the way she has planned all this out without giving how her boys will react in the future a thought. Well in saying that she was dying so who can blame her for not thinking straight so I blame whoever bloody pressured her into thinking it was a good idea.

Stayingsunnygirl · 01/04/2009 14:44

One thought - someone asked why Jade needed to raise so much money, as her husband can afford to support the boys anyway. I wonder whether, having grown up without much money, she learned to equate money with security, more money with more security and lots of money with total security - so enough couldn't be enough for her boys' future. Just a thought.

I do agree with the OP, that it seems a shame to be selling this book/scrapbook.

And when you say, "So a few girls went a did a smear. So what?...." Quintessentially - well, if just one of the women who goes for a smear because of Jade's story, finds something is wrong, and gets treatment earlier - isn't that a good thing? I don't see how you can act as if it's not a good thing that more women may be taking care of their health in this way!

PeachyLikesHerChoccyRabbit · 01/04/2009 15:08

Yes, the next woman who has a smear might just get to stick around for her kids.

Well I would guess with the reported 60% rise in uptake at least one will get to do so.

It's a coincidence link yes, but very great nonetheless.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 01/04/2009 15:09

SSG - I agree; also having grown up with a mostly absent father she may not have felt she could rely on her husband.

seeker · 01/04/2009 18:09

Actually, if there really has been a 60% increase in uptake of smear tests, then I am prepared to speculate that a lot of women in the riskiest age range will now have to wait longer and are therefore more at risk than they are already.

PeachyLikesHerChoccyRabbit · 02/04/2009 12:26

Well I was told 6-8 weeks for results but it took 3 weeks; maybe they've got extra staff in?
