If you've run out of room/pegs, it's fine.

Don't worry.

Buda · 31/03/2009 12:49

Same here! We are at the stage of year that I actually bought the dryer for! Here in Budapest spring/summer/autumn are usually great and clothes dry outside in no time. But there is about 2 weeks either end of winter where it's not warm enough to dry outside or cold enough for heating to be on so that boiler room is warm so I struggle to get stuff dry. Other than these couple of weeks I hardly ever use the dryer and I still feel guilty!

HeadFairy · 31/03/2009 12:50

I always feel guilty when this happens to me, nothing you can do about it though. Our house is on the market at the moment so I can't have washing on dryers in the house or on the line (the garden's tiny) when we're not there, so if it doesn't dry overnight then I have to chuck it in the dryer for an hour to finish it off so I can put it away before I go to work.

4andnotout · 31/03/2009 12:51

I have had to do exatcly the same today, im trying to clear the holiday washing backlog so have 2 lines full of washing, a load in the dryer and another in the machine and still the end is nowhere in sight

MsSpentEaster · 31/03/2009 12:52

Exactly the same here 4ano, i only have 1 DC though

If I was at home I would be using mine. I have a shedload of socks and pants to dry and I am not hanging them out individually. Life is too short!

Walkingwiththighosaurs · 31/03/2009 13:02

Now this is an interesting thread. I decided with the rise in electric prices that I would cut down on my tumble drying. I rang the electric company I am with, to enquire about how much they cost to run. A tumble dryer at peak times uses two units an hour. The peak time rate on average is 26p, therefore it is costing 50p an hour to use. Now I was only using mine for an hour a day but if you work it out over a quarter that is over £40! Just for a tumble dryer. I was gobsmacked. So now, I use my radiators during the winter and get it out on the line during days like this as much as possible. Also I hang things in the airing cupboard and it is amazing how dry they can get overnight. I get a huge sense of satisfaction from not using the tumble dryer.

MargaretMountford · 31/03/2009 13:15

am tumbling and I don't care (not my entire wash load, just things that I want soft and fluffy)

Walkingwiththighosaurs · 31/03/2009 13:17

Yes I have to admit I am missing fluffy towels, at the moment, mine can nearly stand up on their own!

Geepers · 31/03/2009 13:18

I tuble dry year round and don't feel guilty at all. £40 a quarter is a bargain for soft, quickly dried laundry that I don't have to spend hours hanging out, bring in, and ironing.

Walkingwiththighosaurs · 31/03/2009 13:23

How does tumble drying stop you from ironing Geepers

Geepers · 31/03/2009 13:24

I fold it all while still warm and nothing has creases.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 31/03/2009 13:29

Geepers

I do exactly the same - it's actually a really satisfying thing to do.

I can't remember the last time I did any ironing, yet my kids go to school in crease-free uniform.

messymissy · 31/03/2009 13:30

Dont think is unreasonable - I am just jealous as I dont have a tumble dryer or Dish washer for that matter....oh how I long for a bigger kitchen!!!!

ooops should say yes you are unreasonable - think of global warming!!!!!!

Walkingwiththighosaurs · 31/03/2009 13:32

Admittedly i have a condenser tumble dryer (washer dryer) that is fairly crap.

Walkingwiththighosaurs · 31/03/2009 13:34

Well while we are on the subject I have just gone a week without my washing machine because the repair people could not get the part. The reason it broken down was due to a blockage. Caused by colour catchers!! Although they work very well at stopping colours mixing apparently they are causing lots of breakdowns by getting blocked in the machines. I will not be using them again!

ingles2 · 31/03/2009 13:37

I've just pegged a couple of loads on the line and felt very virtuous.
DS1 won't be happy, he refused to get dry in a rock solid towel yesterday.

tootyflooty · 31/03/2009 13:40

I tumble the knickers and socks because it takes so long to peg them out!!! and even longer to get them in again when it starts to rain, but in the school hols when I am not working so much I do try not to use the tumble dryer if the weather is good. ( i must point out I do recycle as much as poss and use energy saving light bulbs, so i am green in other areas )

MsSpentEaster · 31/03/2009 13:40

WWT could you not put the colour catcher in one of those bags they give you with washing tablets?

it would still be able to work but would be big enough to not cause a blockage!

MM my kitchen is 2mx3m with a chunk taken out for underneath the stairs. luckily i have a small utility for fridge and washing/drying machines.

at towel-exfoliators, my 2 are the same (yes I do 'peg out' as well), I have been known to blast them in the tumbler for 10 mins to make them a bit warmer and fluffier.

MsSpentEaster · 31/03/2009 13:46

I do use tumble dryer balls too, they cut drying time down by 25% dontcha know

And don't waste £5/10 on them, you can pick them up in poundland, though i can't remember how much they were

OP posts:
MsSpentEaster · 31/03/2009 13:46

They also make things nice and fluffy

MsspendEaster. Fantastic idea, thanks for that. I was a bit upset as they do actually work. You know how a lot of clothes these days have white sleeves etc, it actually stops them going grey. I don't actually put a red dress in with a white shirt like they do in the adverts though!
