I always dry everything all year round in the Yumble Dryer, i live in a stupid upstairs flat and it is to much ,ike hard work to cart all the stuff down with both kids in tow, plus my neighbour pervs on my pants!

Im not alowed damp clothes im the house becuase of ds's chest so it is literally out of the washing machine and into the dryer with everything.

I wash and dry all day long to, yet my leccy bill is not high, i have a key meter but i hardly ever put anything on it, it has always been a mystery to me but i am not going to complain!

we never peg out at work but i do hang sheets etc out in sun

£40 a month to me is well worth the extra time i gain in not pegging out, and then having to iron creases etc out

dh did once moan about the costs, and i told him that it works out less than £10 a week for 3 loads and it makes me happy and unstressed, he then shut up

Charlee from now on I am going to call my tumble dryer my Yumble dryer in your honour

....I have four urchins, no washing line, very little patience, a 'Y' chromosone and an extraordinarily large laundry pile in the garage.

Right by the tumble dryer.

...therefore everything (and I mean everything) gets tumble dried.

We here at Goth Towers have a somewhat Darwinian (Malthusian, perhaps) approach to laundry.

Everything gets washed at 30 degrees, then gets the bejesus roasted out of it in the tumble dryer.

....if a garment emerges damaged (like the George at CHAVSDA sweater that would now fit Action Man) then plainly it is not fit to survive in the tough, demanding environment that is Goth Towers. There is no need to mourn its passing, for its time has cometh....

while I'd love to save myself the time it takes to hang out socks my conscience won't let me. I tumble dry towels for about 4 minutes - which is enough to make them soft. and very occasionally - if there's a horrendous back log and a queue for hanging space - I'll take the nearly dry stuff down and put it in the drier for a couple of minutes to finish it off. we have a clothes horse in our sitting room an awful lot of the time.

retiredgoth2 · 02/04/2009 09:27

Alas, there is no conscience on display here.

.....the forces of natural laundry selection do not allow for it.

mamadiva · 02/04/2009 09:35

If you've run out of room no... and you could've pretended to be eco godess we would never have known

Re the socks/pants thing I use two of These although cheaper Instore ones about £1.50 each and they are fab!

I have a washer/drier and have used the drier about 8 times in 3 years. If I run out of pegs/space I put the clothes airer outside too other than that our washing gets put on airer in hallway.

I don't have a tumble dryer - haven't had one for about 4yrs now - don't miss it all.

50p an hour is if you're using an efficient machine - I should imagine lower rated ones cost more.

And I couldn't get a full load of washing dried in an hour in my tumble drier when I did own one.

And I don't buy the "fold it up warm doesn't need ironing" line either - you can tell they haven't been ironed. Hated it at work when we only had to iron certain things and just fold the rest up and put in the baskets - they just didn't look right.

And hanging up washing on the line doesn't take long either.

However, OP - if you'd run out of pegs then YANBU to put some in the tumble drier

I used to feel guilty about using the dryer, so when it packed up I didn't replace it and got one of these. Can't recommend it enough, its fab, you never run out of space (takes 4 average washloads) and takes up hardly any space (it fits perfectly in our spare shower cubicle so don't even notice the clothes getting in the way)
