So, other half sold a photocopier for his work on my Ebay account a few weeks back.
I sent the high bidder a message to let him know that other half was in Madrid for 2 days, and that he would contact him upon his return. No response
Other half duly sends him a message the day he gets back (2 days after auction end) to let him know that he could collect any time he likes. No response.
Two further messages sent requesting collection over the next 2 weeks. No response.
So, 3 weeks after the listing end, with zero communication from bidder (and no payment), we offer it to the next highest bidder, and message 1st bidder to let him know as much.

Oh this is where it gets great......

1st bidder leaves us negative feedback, stating that 'seller says they are in the UK but sits abroad. Do not buy from them'
So, my 100% feedback that I have so proudly maintained for 5 years is gone.

He refuses to take it back. Ebay say it is not their policy to remove feedback unless it goes against their policies (swearing, abuse etc)

So I am left with no way out, 97% feedback, for something that is entirely his fault.....

Surely Ebay should be able to investigate, see the unresponded messages that I sent him, therefore proving my case, and remove the feedback? Too much to ask?

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOO pissed off!

make your other half open his own ebay account.

CrackopentheBaileys · 23/03/2009 19:56

although in fairness it really wasn't his fault. The Madrid trip was only decided whilst the listing was actually running, and he did make sure I messaged the guy.
He got an earful when I got the feedback though.... gotta vent at someone rght?

BocciBalls · 23/03/2009 19:57

you can respond on feedback can't you I think? so you can put your side of things? I know it doesn't help the 100% score though. how annoying for you.

alicet · 23/03/2009 19:57

Leave a response to his feedback saying what you have posted here.

And you are allowed to leave negative feedback if they have not paid for item. can't remember the exact logistics of it but you can so check out on ebay.

won't restore your feedback but will tell others what he is really like. And 97% feedback is fine really. Won't stop you trading and will be gone after a year. i would be spitting chips too by the way

FlyMeToDunoon · 23/03/2009 19:58

I thought you could respond to negative feedback?

SoupDragon · 23/03/2009 19:59

Report him as a non paying bidder.

CrackopentheBaileys · 23/03/2009 20:08

I have tried to repsond and leave him negative feedback but it won't let me! It only gives the options 'leave positive' or 'leave later'. Errrr no thanks!

I don't think it's right that he can do this, when he hasn't completed the transaction. I could understand a little more if he had paid....

I know it's lame to get worked up, but I have really worked to give a good service to all my buyers, and I now feel really let down by the Ebay system.

And if I was looking to buy something, I would pick a 100% seller over a 97% seller every time

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 23/03/2009 20:08

As i said, report him as a NPB.

AnnieLobeseder · 23/03/2009 20:11

I think if you report the buyer their feedback will be removed if you win the dispute.

I know it's annoying to have perfect feedback ruined, but to be fair, I look at the general picture when checking out a seller and only pay any attention if there is repeated negative feedback. I would completely ignore a single negative as sour grapes.

SoupDragon · 23/03/2009 20:13
  1. Go to My eBay.
  2. Click the Sold view.
  3. Next to your listing, select Resolve a problem from the pull-down menu. The Resolution Centre ? 'Resolve a problem' form appears.
  4. Select 'I sold an item and haven't received my payment yet' and click Continue.
  5. Sign in to your account. The 'Report an unpaid item case' form appears.

I would certainly respond to the -ve feedback saying the buyer is a NPB and sellers should beware.

alicet · 23/03/2009 20:15

Do as Soupdragon says.

I think if you report him as a NPB then once it is resolved that he didn't pay / he doesn't respond you are able to leave negative feedback

chocolatekitten · 23/03/2009 20:34

I'm a seller myself and totally understand your upset at getting your first neg. So ufair, too ! I'm not a swearing type but very tempted to say what a xx**xx!!!! on your behalf.

Write a polite ( through gritted teeth )and factual response under his comment. Unfortunately, ebay does not give you enough character space to fully explain so need to compose a good answer in a short sentence - use as many abbreviation as possible, while remaining comprehensive.

And put your mind at rest. You and your husband did nothing wrong ! Big deal, two days delay with good comms ! Your husband was very considerate asking you to explain, actually. I often get things I bought sent three, four days after I completed payment and that's with no communication.
I don't get too worked out about it if the purchased item is good , would still leave a positive. Instead I just give extra praise or full star rating to those that are very quick with good comms.

The impression I get is you are a fantastic ebayer and rest assured that I for once would not be at all put off by your one and only negative. Most often you can see through and guess a twat unreasonable buyer was at play.

CrackopentheBaileys · 23/03/2009 20:46

Thanks everyone, I'm off to do the NPB thing now.... fingers crossed! xx

chocolatekitten · 23/03/2009 20:53

By the way, no, you cannot leave a negative feedback for a buyer any more ( since last May).

This was introduced to prevent sellers who receive a deserved negative from then slapping the innocent buyer with a revenge neg. This happened all the time and left buyers scared of leaving a neg where due as they did not want their feedback harmed.

Unfortunately, this policy while seemingly necessary, is by no means ideal. It opened the floodgates to unreasonable or sometimes downright scamming fraudulent buyers.

I often thought what the ideal policy be to truly give justice to both buyers and sellers and haven't come up with one yet. Seems impossible !

CrackopentheBaileys · 23/03/2009 20:56

Ah other half has already done the unpaid item dispute thing. They have closed the case with FVF granted... what's that?!
I still can't leave neg feedback though

OP posts:
CrackopentheBaileys · 23/03/2009 20:59

thanks CK, x-post!
Yes that's certainly very unfair, he really deserves neg feedback, it's totally on it's head this time. Feel very pee'd off!
((eats lots of calming ferrero rocher from ds))

CrackopentheBaileys · 23/03/2009 21:01

and if Ebay bases its whole ethos on the feedback system, then surely that is totally compromised when that right is taken away from the seller

RockinSockBunnies · 23/03/2009 21:07

Ebay's gone downhill since they altered the site in favour of buyers. I both buy and sell (occasionally) and it drives me mad that the buyers now have all the power. If there's a dodgy buyer, there's no way the seller can leave negative feedback .

SoupDragon · 23/03/2009 21:18

FVF is a refund of the final value fees you were charged on the sale.

Flibbertyjibbet · 23/03/2009 21:19

Whilst you can't neg a buyer, I am sure you can still leave a response to any negs that get left for you.
You don't get much space though so would need to word it carefully.

'only abroad 4 weekend! buyer never collected despite emails'.

Hows that?

And do a non paying bidder thing as well.

MmeLindt · 23/03/2009 21:22

I have sold occasionally on Ebay, and have bought quite often. I would not be at all worried about someone with 97% feedback, especially if they had a fair amount of sales. There is always going to be some fuckwit buyer who does leaves neg feedback for no reason. It would not put me off buying from you.

Bellebelle · 23/03/2009 21:41

I've noticed that some people are leaving 'positive feedback' for people and then writing the negative comments in. Doesn't affect their score obviously but a way of leaving your comments and will flag up issue to anyone who bothers to look at feedback details (I often do).

alicet · 23/03/2009 21:41

Sorry I was mistaken about the neg. I knwo there is something that you can do if you have reported them as npb - maybe its to have the neg feedback removed? I'll try and look into it but pretty busy this eveing....

alicet · 23/03/2009 21:48

Feedback removal: We?ll remove Feedback under the following exceptional circumstances:

It breaches specific policies

It?s left by a user who is later suspended

It?s left by a buyer who fails to respond to an Unpaid Item Notice and you file an Unpaid Item strike.

It contains vulgar language

It contains personal contact information

We?ve received a valid court order to remove the Feedback

Learn more about removing Feedback and how to request Feedback

alicet · 23/03/2009 21:49

Last message cut and pasted from ebay. So if you start the npb process and buyer doesn't respond and receives a strike you will get the neg removed. knew there was a way to make this less grossly unfair
