Cat poo!

I live in a terraced house and at least four cats live in our immediate vicinity (next door or next door to that).

I am SICK of clearing up cat poo from our garden so that we can enjoy it without the stink or worrying that the children will get it on themselves.

So, AIBU to expect that, as is the case for dogs, owners are expected to clear up the mess from their animals themselves?

I thought that perhaps when you get a cat you are put on a rota system whereby you have to clear the poo from the gardens near your house?! That should stop a few people from getting them as well!

Or, what about having to licence them and if there are too many cats in a particular area you have to put your name on a waiting list?

Or both??!? Any other ideas or am I about to get flamed?!

lissielou you are a very responsible dog owner. Somebody let their dog into a children's playground near us and my dd got her hand covered in dog poo, lucky I had some wipes on me. The local wood near to where we live - covered in dog poo. My dd got it on her wellies then when dh picked her up his jeans were covered also.

As for cat poo, maybe thinking back to the OP's comments about a licence, it's a problem because there are alot of cats. Don't know how to advice about this, maybe write to an MP or something?

dingbatgirl: ewwwww, thats vile. i know that there are many dog owners who dont clear up after their pets, that is truly horrible and i dont understand it. i taught ds to poo in the toilet, wipe his bum and wash his hands because it cleaner than crapping anywhere. i dont know why its ok for pets to crap wherever because they "are following instincts".

BustyMcGee - don't be embarrassed! We have always had cats, but at one point there were terrorised by a local 'hard' tom. DH peed on the doorstep by the cat flap and around the boundary - the cat stopped coming and ours were fine!

Absolutely recommended - men's will work better by the way.

LOL!

I read lissielou's thread fast and thought she'd trained her dog to crap in the toilet,

and

I hope Jux's doorstep was at the BACK of the house

Will be feeding DH copious amounts of water and sending him out to the garden as soon as he gets home

We're going to try potty training our son in the summer too - figured I could let him run around nappy-less once it's warmer - not sure teaching him it's OK to pee in the garden is a great idea but I could certainly empty a few pottys out there...

Don't often reply to threads, but HAD to on this one:

YANBU

I have a titchy garden that is all patio, but I have about 8 cats in the nearest 4 or 5 houses. Several of tem come into the garden, dig up my pots, scratch off my cammelia buds, knock over smaller pots, and poo all over the place.

It is driving me mad and costing me a lot of money.

  • cat repellent granules
  • new pots
  • Jeye's fluid
  • sonic thingumy

I do not accept that cat owner's should not take responsibility for their cats. Cat poo is not only smelly and foul, it also has huge health risks. I do not want to risk me (esp if I decide to get pregnant again) or my dc getting toxoplasmosis.

I don't want to fall out with my neighbours but am going to start photographing the cats just before my ds soaks them with a huge ppump action water pistol.

Cats can, and should, be taught to use litter trays.

One neighbour suggested I get a cat myself to stop her cat using my garden. But I don't want a cat!!! And ds has bad allergies so a furry pet is a no no. She made out like it was my fault that her cats pooed in my garden because I refused to get my own cat. wtf.

Sorry, rant over. That feels better.
