Cat poo!

DunderMifflin · 19/03/2009 13:01

I live in a terraced house and at least four cats live in our immediate vicinity (next door or next door to that).

I am SICK of clearing up cat poo from our garden so that we can enjoy it without the stink or worrying that the children will get it on themselves.

So, AIBU to expect that, as is the case for dogs, owners are expected to clear up the mess from their animals themselves?

I thought that perhaps when you get a cat you are put on a rota system whereby you have to clear the poo from the gardens near your house?! That should stop a few people from getting them as well!

Or, what about having to licence them and if there are too many cats in a particular area you have to put your name on a waiting list?

Or both??!? Any other ideas or am I about to get flamed?!

I would like to invent an anti-cat spray that actually works . I would call it ....... "Puss Off"

BottySpottom · 19/03/2009 16:17

We were told to fill large water or soft drinks bottles with water and leave them around. It seems to work - something to do with the light shining through the water that they don't like

Dingbatgirl · 19/03/2009 16:18

LOL at your post screamingabdab!

screamingabdab · 19/03/2009 16:18

Ta ! Dingbat

JemL · 19/03/2009 16:28

I have vague memories of our neighbours putting sticky stuff on their side and back wall to stop cats getting in their garden - like anti-climb paint, but for cats.

frisbyrat · 19/03/2009 16:31

Brilliant, screamingabdab. I'd buy it.

chegirl · 19/03/2009 16:42

I have given up on cats. The ungrateful bleeders always leave and shack up with someone else (after I have spent a fortune getting them spayed and vaccinated!). I told my neighbours they were more than welcome to spray water at my cats if they went in their gardens. One side used to do this and it worked. The others side's kids loved playing with my cat so they didnt (he used to chase them up and down like a dog).

There are so many cats round here I dont know what the answer would be. It is annoying to get a handful of cat poo when you are digging out your borders. I worry about the baby picking up a lump when he is fosicking around under the bamboo.

It makes it difficult to feed the birds too. I feel like I am providing a buffet for the local moggie mafia.

Dont get me started on what they used to do in my play bark either

sarahl2 how lovely for you vile children appearing over your fence every few seconds. Maybe they would stop if they got a faceful of their beloved cats poo .
How the faff do you diss a cat anyway.

I've got horrid little barky dogs now so the cats dont come in anymore HAH!

happywomble · 19/03/2009 16:48

YANBU - I was about to start a post on the same subject.

our neighbours cat has taken to pooing all over our garden and its driving me mad.

I will be reading this thread for "puss off" ideas .

We also sometimes get Fox poo - yuk!

Confuzzeled · 19/03/2009 16:49

Whoever said throw a ball, thats actually cruel and evil. Just because you don't like cats doesn't mean you should hurt them.

I have a cat who is too lazy to go out so she uses a litter. I have 2 cats who use my front garden as a loo. I put out pepper corns regularly and am trying to get some tiger poo as it's meant to last longer.

My neighbour feeds the birds and the my fence next to her feeder it sprayed with bird poo, it stinks. I wouldn't dream of telling her to move her feeder, animals and birds poo, it's normal.

Some twat lets his dog crap at the end of my street and I've even called the police about it as it's huge piles of shit that makes me want to vomit. I'm not going to throw balls at him or ask every dog owner within 2-3 miles to come clean it up.

lucyec · 19/03/2009 16:50

Same happened to us when we lived in a terrace - I would flick it back to next-door's garden (who's cat was responsible) as per a previous post.

My mum has a really good water gun that shoots really far, v. effective in getting rid of cats. (Her neighbours new cat ate all her 10 yr old fish out of the pond, grrr)

My ex-boss is a cat lover (has 3 herself) and she advised using a water pistol or hose to drench cats and keep them out. It won't hurt them, just annoy them a lot.

Another suggestion is planting lots of spiky plants!

SarahL2 · 19/03/2009 16:53

Thanks chegirl. The neighbours kids are indeed hideous little monsters. Both tweenagers and full of hormones. All the local gardens are postage stamp sized and yet the terrors parents decided to buy an enormous trampoline and wedge it against the fence!!

Still, better than the climbing frame where the faces were a constant. Just like our very own CCTV but with commentary and questions!!

The fishing wire never really worked either so I get all this abuse and no reward

I would be out like a shot to buy screamingabdab's cat spray. Fantastic name

SarahL2 · 19/03/2009 16:57

Oh and thanks too to chegirl for replying. I've only been posting on Mumsnet for a couple of days and have never had a reply before.

Feel included

screamingabdab · 19/03/2009 17:01

SarahL2 chegirl is loverly (just don't tell anyone she watches Jeremy Kyle)

Welcome!

chegirl · 19/03/2009 17:18

You are welcome sarah {grin}. I am often overlooked too, which I find ASTOUNDING as my posts are full of insight and wisdom. Most of this insight and wisdom is gathered directly from Jeremy Kyle and his guests so I feel no shame.

Thankyou screaming I am loverly arnt I ? Its nice to see it in print though.

On the subject of cats - when we moved to this house I was thrilled that we had a nice fireplace. I was terribly arty and filled it with white pebbles and fairly lights. It looked beautiful. Unfortunately my two kittens thought it was some sort of luxury, illuminated litter tray and pooed all over it! I was devestated . Bloody cats.

Confuzzeled · 19/03/2009 17:59

I take back anything nice I said about cats, mine just pissed on my daughters painting pinny thing.

screamingabdab · 19/03/2009 18:06

My cat just cost me (i can hardly bring myself to say it...) Fourfrigginghundredpounds for a dental operation.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 19/03/2009 18:30

It's not the cat poo I have a problem with at the moment. It's a cat that keeps spraying over the front door area.

It stinks!!

Mspontipine · 19/03/2009 22:50

Sorry I am not suggesting anyone should actually try to hit a cat with a football. I'm a huge cat lover! Mine was a reference to this amazingly old thread I remembered - here

loobeylou · 19/03/2009 23:09

have not read all of thread but have you tried cds placed in problem areas, apparently they don't like their reflections, think there is another cat there

some zoos actually SELL lion and tiger poo, for cat scaring

and I had a friend who swore by putting peeled raw garlic in the cats favourite poo places

Dingbatgirl · 20/03/2009 08:18

screamingabdab that is outrageous. My cat cost me £250 last year for dental work and I though that was bad.

screamingabdab · 20/03/2009 08:24

Dingbatgirl She had to have 2 canines and 2 other teeth out (she's quite old), and a bit of her lower jaw. Maybe it's because I'm in London, or maybe I'm being fleeced.

(I liken taking the cat to the vet to taking the car in for a service - you can't leave the place without having spent at least 50 quid - with extra guilt thrown in !)

OracleInaCoracle · 20/03/2009 08:39

i hate cats. in response to who was shocked that catowners should follow their cats around with a poopscoop.. why not? dog owners have to do it! you take responsibility for your pet. i resent having to clear up cat shit from my garden. i clear up my dogs poo when we go for a walk. i clear up his poo from his dog run. would never dream of allowing him to crap in a neighbours garden, why should cats and cat owners get away with it?

DunderMifflin · 20/03/2009 09:57

lissielou - exactly!

100years, we tried that. got a JRT (but think he may be a westie, he's too fluffy to be a JRT) and the cat who poos in pour garden got into the kitchen through an open window when benji was a ffew months old and scared him witless. now he is scared of cats (but still thinks he can take on a rottweiler)
