To buy my daughters easter bonnet ?

mummyloveslucy · 15/03/2009 19:01

O.k I know I am and it is dishonest. It's just that my daughter has a parade at nursery and there is a prize for the best one. I was looking on e-bay for some ideas and found a fantastic bonnet. It's so inventive and so much work has gon in to it. I couldn't make anything as good. I'm thinking about buying it to save having to make one.
What do you think? should I?

nickytwotimes · 15/03/2009 19:02

It is cheating if there is a prize.

Stop laughing at the back - this is serious!

laurasmiles · 15/03/2009 19:03

Not if I get there first!

Hulababy · 15/03/2009 19:03

She won't win if you do IME.

Go buy her a little kit and have fun making one together with paper flowers and cut out bunnies, etc.

Far better than bought.

Hulababy · 15/03/2009 19:04

I am assuming you have been asked to make the bonnet with your child BTW.

If just asked to provide a bonnet - nt cheating as such, just not as fun.

piscesmoon · 15/03/2009 19:05

It is no fun for your DD if you buy it.

hereidrawtheline · 15/03/2009 19:05

sorry for hijack but can you get an easter bonnet for a boy? probably not...

Hulababy · 15/03/2009 19:06

ELC do kits. Some are rabbit shaped so def ok for a boy.

mummyloveslucy · 15/03/2009 19:07

I dread to think what it would look like if my daughter had anything to do with it. She dosn't get that less is more.
It would be fun though.

mummyloveslucy · 15/03/2009 19:10

I don't see why a boy can't have an easter bonnet. Perhaps less flowers and ribbon and more rabbits and chocolate eggs ?

Let her go mad! It is her hat

hereidrawtheline · 15/03/2009 19:14

oh great! thanks. DS wont wear it. He has ASD and wont put anything new on his head. But it would make him smile to look at it so I shall go for it!

Sorry again for hijack!

I was going to say wrt the OP, if you are supposed to make it yourself, dont because you will feel really bad later I think. But if its just turn up with a bonnet and you particularly want it go ahead! Do other crafty things with your DD. But just because I like to drool over pretty things can I have a link to it please?

mummyloveslucy · 15/03/2009 19:15

True. It would probubly be cheeper too as this one would be £14 with packaging. It was fantastic though.

mummyloveslucy · 15/03/2009 19:22

I can't do a link as I'm not sure how to but it's on ebay and if you type this nomber in to the search box, it'll come up. : 110364302017.

Oh my god I am not going to make this any easier for you but I love it!!!!!! It is so cute!!!!

Right I should probably leave you to your willpower now... really if it says make your own I think you should. People will know you didnt and it will be annoying. But I do love this.

mylifemykids · 15/03/2009 19:27

£14 for a hat that's going to be worn once and then wrecked by the end of the day. You could make it so much cheaper yourself

YABU!!!

Hulababy · 15/03/2009 19:30

This?

It is expensive for a home made Easter bonnet fr a child.

Make one!

melpomene · 15/03/2009 19:31

It's much better fun to make the bonnet with your child (and where's the pride or achievment in winning a contest with a bought bonnet?)

Last year I made my dd2's bonnet using a paper plate and bowl (steps 1 and 2 here. Then I stuck a ribbon round it and my dd put on the rest of the decorations. It won first prize. I've put a pic in my profile.

nancy75 · 15/03/2009 19:32

if a child turned uo at my dds pre school wearing this i would feel quite sorry for them as i would think their parents couldn't be bothered to spend the time with them making one and were more intereseted in looking better than everyone else than in having fun with their child.

pinkyp · 15/03/2009 19:32

no ur not being unreasonable at all - its up to u if u want to buy one or make one.

SugarBird · 15/03/2009 19:34

Makes me feel ancient to say this but I'm sure that when DS1 was at school (he's 19 now) there weren't nearly as many dressing up things. They didn't dress up for World Book Day, didn't make Easter bonnets, Halloween wasn't a big thing (round here, anyway). Was a lot cheaper and much less pressure!

YANBU to do whatever's easiest but slightly mad to spend much money imo

mummyloveslucy · 15/03/2009 19:41

It is a great bonnet, I love the chicken run on the telly.
I won't buy it though. I'll have fun with my daughter making one.
She'd probubly drop me in it too, if asked did Mummy make this she'd probubly say "no, it came to our house in a box".
I could try to make one like it with her.

I wouldn't buy one but that's cos i'm cheap and would rather spend £14 on a nice bottle of wine

We did ours in an hour yesterday afternoon with cardboard crown shapes. Spent £4 in the pound shop on horrible plastic fake flowers , fluffy easter chicks and a feather boa that we cut up. The kids stuck everything on with sellotape and I helped them staple the flowers on. They look hideous but at least it looks like they made them. Ds6 one looks more like an indian choefs headress so he'll not lose 'cool' points with his friends.

hereidrawtheline · 15/03/2009 19:59

melpomene - I love your DD's hat!!! And you have inspired me and DH to do the same with the plate & bowl for DS, DH & me! Now to get supplies...

DesperateHousewifeToo · 15/03/2009 20:08

I looked on ebay for ideas last year but would never have bought one (dreadful as I am at anything arty).

Ds definitely would not have worn anything that he considered 'girly'.

Used his plactic soldier helmet as a base. Covered the helmet with cottonwool, printed a 'shawn the sheep' mask and stuck it to the front with paper legs dangling at the sides.

He was quite pleased with it.

I'm hoping we do not have to do one this year[fingers crossed emoticon].

Dd though would be in her element with making one but will have to wait till next year.

If you have a daughter, go for it with the glitter and chicks. It will be fab and she'll love it.

mumeeee · 15/03/2009 22:43

YABU. You shoulsd be making one with her, It doesn't matter what she wants to put on it. It's her hat.
