I have a huge pile of exam marking, should not be on here really. So much infact that I woke up at 5am this morning with a panic attack.

I have been marking since 6 this morning, although with frequent breaks on here and marked for most of yesterday.

Today it is my birthday and dd wants to make a cake, she is getting under our feet as the weather is bad and she cant go and run about.

Dp says he cant make a cake so I am having to stop work so I can make my own cake , meaning once again I will be working until the early hours.

Dp has tidied the house and made me breakfast this morning.

Well, can he make a cake? Plenty of people can't bake. I suppose he could have looked up a recipe on the internet, but maybe he was afraid he would end up making an awful cake (and being lambasted on here for his inability to make a simple sponge cake ).

twinsetandpearls · 08/03/2009 16:07

I dont get what is hard. You follow a recipe.
He is now having a go bless him. You see the ppower of mumsnet.

Tidying the house and making breakfast is not a birthday treat - that's something that needs to be done every day.

YANBU - he should be helping your dd to make the cake.

Put him on this thread - I'll give him an ear bashing for you.

Yay, now you can critique his baking skills for all of us later

twinsetandpearls · 08/03/2009 16:09

I know nametaken but I did not want to portay his as a lazy twat when he is far from that.

He is now doing the cake all be in a very ratty and stressed manner.

No bakery here kerrymumbles it is Sunday.

How old is DD? Maybe she can make a cake and he can help, IYSWIM?

twinsetandpearls · 08/03/2009 16:12

She is 7, she is quite a good cake maker as she helps me in the kitchen. She can read the recipe but just needs supervision and help wit beating.

DrTrillianAstra · 08/03/2009 16:16

Yep, so she reads instructions, and tells Daddy to do anything that needs strong arms or high-reaching or touching hot/sharp things. Easy. DH doesn't need to be able to make a cake, he just has to do as he's told

DrTrillianAstra · 08/03/2009 16:16

PS Happy Birthday (did say on t'other thread but thought I should repeat as it's something you can't hear too many times)

twinsetandpearls · 08/03/2009 16:22

lol they are doing it now and dp is getting quite stressed as he likes to be in control. I have been told to stay away.

Janos · 08/03/2009 16:37

Happy birthday twinset! Leave them to it and enjoy your cake

twinsetandpearls · 08/03/2009 16:38

They are now taking it very seriously, dp is lecturing her on the chemistry of baking

Happy birthday twinset. Remeber to praise him highly on his culinary skills, even if you are presented with a flat brick . Hope you manage to find some time today to relax and enjoy.

Notlongnowbaby · 08/03/2009 16:46

Can't he buy one for you?

Happy Birthday.

twinsetandpearls · 08/03/2009 16:47

I dont do shop bought cake, I have loads of baking ingredients and equipment , why waste money buying one. I am sure his home made one will be nicer than a shop bought one.

Notlongnowbaby · 08/03/2009 16:50

Wll OP, why are you moaning? Hope it is yummy.

twinsetandpearls · 08/03/2009 16:51

Because he had been refusing for hours to do it, he saw me post on mumsnet and became afraid.

bentneckwine1 · 08/03/2009 16:53

Happy Birthday...enjoy!! And you will have to eat it all up even if it is a disaster.

Notlongnowbaby · 08/03/2009 16:58

Twinsetandpearls, I hope you have a lovley day but YABU, the poor bloke should'nt have to make cake because you don't do shop bought and you are being unfair on YOU too because if you had not of got your own way, you would of made it!

twinsetandpearls · 08/03/2009 17:16

Poor bloke!!??? I think not , he is quite enjoying the cake baking although he is taking it very seriously.

FAQinglovely · 08/03/2009 17:19

I can follow any recipe perfectly well, so long as it's not a baking one - ie a meal "no problem" - cake...........ermm well it's not just happened once that I've attempted a cake (from a recipe, carefully measuring ingredients out and following "to the book") and ended up going out to buy a shop bought one as mine is inedible

Notlongnowbaby · 08/03/2009 17:24

We will have to agree to disagree.

twinsetandpearls · 08/03/2009 17:25

It is out of the oven and looks good. He is not letting dd do very much though.

twinsetandpearls · 08/03/2009 17:51
