What things irrationally wind the hell out of you?

I HATE listening to the BBC news in the morning, when the news readers say "its is EXACTLY half past six" because I always end up shouting "IT IS NOT!!" because it surely can never be EXACTLY unless they string out the sixxxxxx until it is exactly that time.

I get annoyed when people talk about the coins and say that the Queen is on the FRONT of the coin, she is on the back. Because if you were looking at all the pictures of all the coins, you'd put the Queen down to see the pics, therefore she is the back of the coin. And its only "heads and tails" because its a picture of her head.

When I'm really stroppy, I get annoyed at the Kool Kids sign near my house. If they wanted to use alliteration, use Cool Children, surely?!

So... what gets your goat for no reason

I wondered what you meant there! Yes, posts are too similar, and I'm getting tired and confused

DrTrillianAstra · 07/03/2009 23:26

I was writing in reply to you, paolosgirl - we could have just carried on chatting and everyone would have thought that aisles irrationally annoyed me or something!

kittydotcom · 07/03/2009 23:29

people who drop rubbish in the street, even more annoying is when they just throw it vaguely in the direction of the bin and dont pick it up when they miss.
whoever let their dog poo on my front garden leaving it there for my 3 year old to walk through this morning.
people who push children who are clearly able to walk,ie over 3yrs of age, around in pushchairs and then wonder why they are getting fat.

paolosgirl · 07/03/2009 23:31

Don't worry - I know what you mean!

I can see a career on Grumpy Old Women beckoning. Things that would not have bothered me years ago now really wind me up. I must look into evening primrose or something...I'm sure I've got a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

muddyboots · 07/03/2009 23:36

People dropping litter - A red mist descends and I become unable to restrain myself.

Dog poo bags hanging in bushes. Why bother picking it up in the first place?

As has been said before, people asking if my baby is good. No he's wicked! He was born evil and only cries to make me miserable.

DH not putting the new toilet roll on the holder and leaving it on top of the toilet instead. I wouldn't be bothered if we didn't have a holder, but we do, and the roll just slides on. Use it!

kiddiz · 08/03/2009 00:24

"supermarket checkout staff who have to ring for an attendant to authorise them to sell ME alcohol because THEY'RE under 18. Whats that all about?"
Tis the law...you have to be 18 to sell alcohol as well as buy it.

PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 08/03/2009 09:40

chail letters

junk email

wrong use of common words like their/there/they're. Especially when done by a teacher

apostrophes used when it is just a plural and doesn't need one ie carrot's for sale

bad manners

people chewing with their mouth open

toddlers running around with a bottle in their mouth - give them a beaker and get them to sit still with it!

people not supervising their children at the park or in the playground because they are too busy talking

linserella · 08/03/2009 11:02

Rows of 4x4s waiting outside the city centre private school at 3.15pm which I have to get through with a pram.

Ugg boots which suddenly, then very rapidly leak water in (ok, this happened at precisely the point I was trying to get through the parked 4x4s and probably compounded it).

4x4s for city driving, status status status

Saltire · 08/03/2009 11:33

My MILs insistence on calling Dummies "tits". It's not a tit, it's a dummy. A tit is a bird.

These programmes such as "Steven fry goes to America paid for by the licence payer". "Griff Rhys Jones gets a nice tour of Britain paid for by the licence payer" "Oz and James get a nice tour of Britain and the chance to have free alcohol, all paid for by the licence payer"
"Griff Rhys Jones and 2 of his mates get a nice boat trip paid for by the licence payer","Joanna Lumley gets.... well you get the idea!

gardeningmum05 · 08/03/2009 11:45

people that say ta to my children, its THANKYOU FOR GODS SAKE!

Saltire · 08/03/2009 12:25

People who ask for "advise" when they really mean "Advice". Example "My 3 yo keeps eating crayons, can I have some advise please"

lou222 · 08/03/2009 12:38

people who say bockle

people who say you can learn me that! no teach!! ffs

kettlechip · 08/03/2009 12:43

tissue pronounced tiss-you

People who post things through my door, expect me to keep them for 3 days and then put them back outside at a time of their convenience. Stop it, I am never going to order anything or donate a bag of clothes for you to sell on (wtf!) to poor countries!!!

PuddingChops · 08/03/2009 13:01

"Can I get" instead of "may I have" when asking for something in a shop. Sounds
stupid and thick. It's just wrong ,wrong, wrong.

nomoreamover · 08/03/2009 13:32

thought of another one - the postman who insists on ringing the bell 4 times then still leaves the parcel/big letter in the bin store - WTF why ring the bell in the first place!!!! Bit late once he's woken all my sleeping babies up!

linserella · 08/03/2009 13:40

LOL Saltire, my MIL says tit too, arrgh, makes me twitch...

Agree. It should be illegal!!!!

lou222 · 08/03/2009 14:16

people who don't turn the sound off on the t v when on the phone

people who don't turn t v off when they have visitors

rude rude rude

dancingonmice · 08/03/2009 16:43

People who write wierd instead of weird.

Merrylegs · 08/03/2009 16:46

People who, when asked if they would like a cup of tea, or perhaps a biscuit say -

'Ooh, that sounds lovely'.

Yes, I know it does. But would you like one?

A simple yes or no would make it easier.

independiente · 08/03/2009 17:00

'investment piece', 'on-trend', 'fashion-forward'. Actually, 'bang on trend' is the most awful...

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 08/03/2009 17:02

When you said to people "would you like a tea or coffee" and they come back with "yes please"
Which then puts you in the whole "but which one..?"
to be answered with "oh, whichever is easiest"

well, a glass of water would be easiest, or nothing, if we're playing that game!

The expressions:

It's a big ask - no, it's a lot to ask.

Any wanky property-speak expression, especially 'space' and 'sourced'. No, it's a room and you bought it.

Competitive parents.

There are more. I'll have a think.
