To think that if 19 people have jumped off a certain place

intending to kill themselves, then measures should be taken to make it harder for the victims(?) to jump off (with nets?)

I dont really know how but surely something should be done?

To be fair, 19 people have jumped in the 27 years since they have been open. The car parks have been open since 1982, and the attempts have been spread between them.

While it is tragic, in answer to the OP, I don't think 19 attempts between 2 car parks in 27 years is enough to warrant special constructions to avoid it, sad as it is.

High places are going to be a site of choice for a jumper. Perhaps signs would help.

Lou, the car parks are right next to each other, with a road through the middle with an enclosed footbridge going over, even though the are two separate carparks they are right next to each other and seen as 'queensgate carparks' not really as separate carparks.

I think that an attempted suicide every 1.5 years is something that needs looking into.

The the moment there is nothing to stop anyone at all, even children jumping off, the wall is at waist height and can be sat on, we used to do it alot whilst looking out over the city, if someone had been in the wrong frame of mind they could have easily just jumped/fell quite easily.

I think they need to at least put bars on or make it so you cant climb onto the wall, on the carpark furthest away from queensgate there is a bit where the step go down and on the top floor there is a slanted roof which has a small wall around it, it is easy to climb onto and we used to sunbathe up there, i know people have jumped from there before.

I think even if they dont put up nets of fences there are a few things they could do to stop it being so easy.

I live close to Beachy Head, which is one of the most used sites for suicide in the world.
and people come from all over the world just to throw themselves off.
people have even driven their cars over it (on purpose)

however it would be pretty impossible to put up fences etc as it would spoil an area of outstanding beauty.

there are volunteers which patrol at different times/days to try and counsel anyone who looks like they may be intending to jump,
but I have no idea how successful this is.

I do know though that the clean up operations end up costing the local residents alot in their council tax

Didn't Niagora Falls get fenced because too many people were jumping off it?

I once worked in an office building right on The Thames; I would see a body floating past my window about once a month.
