I feel unreasonable about this, but i have lost count of the times that I have thought, oh i need X so i will just pop to woolworths to get it and then thought, oh, no, i wont will i! So despite me saying that i wouldn't miss it, i really really do - especially as i don't drive and a lot of the stuff they sold is just no available in town.

Some of the smaller retailers have, i noticed, started to stock some of the things you could buy from there so that is definately a GOOD thing, but for my own convenience - i bloody miss woollies!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2009 16:03

With \adams gone too we have nowhere in town now to get childrens clothes at all. Even basics like tights and socks we now have to travel several miles.

LucyEllensmummy · 01/03/2009 17:59

Its just a fleshwound, i saw ladybird clothes in a shoe shop that also sells clothes the other day - can't think what its called, shoe express?? Used to be stead and simpson i think.

Maybe this will cheer you guys up...

TheCrackFox · 01/03/2009 18:24

It would be good to have it online. I have looked for a website for all the gubbins that they sell but it seems (to me anyway) that Woolies was unique. Where else could you get pegs, sellotape, CD, small tin of paint, childrens T-shirt and a choccie bar from?

Jux · 01/03/2009 18:36

We miss Wooldworth's. There is nowhere else in our town which sells children's clothes, esp not school or underwear. Luckily, we managed to get 2 school shirts for dd in their final sale - they'd been telling us for weeks they hadn't got any!

Kimi · 01/03/2009 18:39

DS1 needed swim shorts at short notice Friday, I thought dash to woolworth..... DOH

kentgirl73 · 01/03/2009 18:57

my daughter wanted a HSM doll and my son wanted a "gordon train" - can we get them - argos, toys r us, no!!!! Woolies would have though! Even my daughter said shall we go to woolies!!!

CaptainRex · 01/03/2009 19:00

I miss them too, kept going in before they shut to stock up on various things that I guessed we may need in the future, but so far this week I have wanted to buy some small girls birthday cards, presents and lots of wrapping paper. And also noticed we need some more vests soon too.

No idea what is going to take over the large store in town, its a great big gapping hole

janeite · 01/03/2009 19:01

I haven't missed it tbh but I hate seeing the empty shops. Hope our local ones don't become Iceland or Primark though.

The only thing I think I've wanted that Woolies would have been useful for is some elastic and pins: had to go to the market instead.

wotulookinat · 01/03/2009 19:06

I've missed it. I couldn't buy a CD single because no-where else in town did them, so I HAD to resort to buying the album as a knock-ff, so the sad demise of Woolies has increased CD piracy.

laumiere · 01/03/2009 19:44

I really missed it today when I wanted to get some Duplo for my toddler and a couple of picture frames!

tassisssss · 01/03/2009 19:50

HUGE loss in our town. Now the only places to buy toys are ELC and argos.

Turniphead1 · 01/03/2009 19:51

Me too!! My DD (aged 5) threw her arms around the door of our local Woolies and kissed it (euugh) when we went in for a farewell visit. I only used it since I had kids though. Hmmm.

compo · 01/03/2009 19:53

that's fab it's ging t be online!

wotulookinat · 01/03/2009 21:27

Woolies is going to be online?

Dillydaydreamer · 01/03/2009 21:33

I do too and was so sad when I went in before xmas and ended up blubbing at a til! Thinking about all the poor people who worked there and wouldn't have a job after xmas.
I have done exactly the same because we also live in a small town that sells very little. Especially childrens clothes, shoes and 'bits' like haberdashery etc.
I really hope they do go online!

Sails · 01/03/2009 21:47

Me too we loved the childrens clothes especially the pjamas. Both the dc had loads of ladybird clothes

Ashantai · 01/03/2009 22:51

So sad it's gone, out of all the shops closing it's the only one that's really bothered me, asit was a one stop (non food) shop.

Wilkos is okay but doesn't have the extensive range.

What to do re toy father xmas bought (and now need refills - have e.mailled chad valley but no response

2shoes · 01/03/2009 23:06

I miss the clothes, I could get some nice stuff for dd, and they had a good stock of toys(in nice wide w/c friendly aisles

Linnet · 01/03/2009 23:21

I miss that when dd has a party coming up you can no longer go into woolies to have a browse and look at the toys to see what there is to buy/get ideas. looking through the Argos catalogue just isn't the same
