when people don't read the thread and think they have had an original thought that has already been posted several times and been explained away?

Jack fucking Tweed can't have his curfew moved to Jade's house because she has children and his horrifically violent crime was committed against a child.

So, even though I know that it's bad form to post "ffs read the thread fgs!" I still wish people would read the fecking thread!

so. come on, AIBU?

qwert - you have to do the cross out liney things before and after each word, not the whole sentence

like this (only without gaps)

so it looks like this

same for bold italics and underlining

If you don't read the thread, how can you contribute to the discussion? Or even truly understand the discussion? You can't. You just end up posting something totally irrelevant and looking like a twat.

OTOH, if the op is asking a clear and simple question, you don't really need to read the whole thread, because the op is wanting a response to their question, which is right there. Unless it's one of those AIBU by fucking stealth! People who do that should have a billion volts passed through their colon. erm but that's a rant for another day.

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 27/02/2009 18:36

take a chill pill

nomoreamover · 27/02/2009 18:53

Wasn't aware there was "mumsnetiquette" so do newbies like myself have to go on a course or something to be allowed to post and not get vilified?!

YABU sorry but who cares - some threads are pages and pages long and does it matter if its been repeated?

Littlefish · 27/02/2009 19:06

I completely agree Squonk.

In fact, I did ask MNHQ whether the posts of the OP could appear in a different colour each time, so that those of us who are skimming through, could see the OP's posts more easily.

Sometimes if it's a very long thread, I've forgotten who the OP was by the time I've got halfway through.

nomoreamover - it matters if it's been repeated because sometimes it escalates an argument that has already been resolved.

nomoreamover · 27/02/2009 19:08

way to let off steam though in a safe environment?....

fryalot · 27/02/2009 19:10

nomoreamover - it matters if you are following the thread and every third post is a repeat of a previous one. It makes it difficult to follow and, just as when you're having a RL conversation, when you get the feeling that someone is just not listening to what everyone else is saying and butting in with their opinions even though they have already been voiced is annoying.

And mumsnettiquette is just common sense really, like not being nasty or making personal attacks, not starting a thread about a thread not starting a thread about another poster or posters

OP posts:
clam · 27/02/2009 19:11

Does anyone else get unjustifiably annoyed when they make a bloody good point on a thread, and then everyone ignores it? Or worse, someone chips in further down the page with the same point?
What is the polite mumsnettiquette for "I've just SAID that, ffs?"

fryalot · 27/02/2009 19:14

oh god, clam, yes!

that happened to me the other day and I wanted to stamp my feet and yell "I SAID THAT TEN MINUTES AGO!!!"

The other thing that annoys me is when you contribute to a thread and don't even get an acknowledgement. Sometimes they return to the thread and post "bump" grr!

OP posts:
ClaraDeLaNoche · 27/02/2009 19:14

YANBU. I am gifted though. I don't have to read a thread to know what people are saying.
Eg have read the OP in the AIBU BF in supermarket and am just imagining the chat.

PS But why can't Jack live with her?

2shoes · 27/02/2009 19:14

squonk this is not a thread about a fred, it is a thread about all freds

HecatesTwopenceworth · 27/02/2009 19:15

that's IS the polite version, clam.

nomoreamover · 27/02/2009 19:15

wow - scary place this mumsnet [creeps back to her nurturing and friendly forum on the other tab......]

HecatesTwopenceworth · 27/02/2009 19:16

wimp.

Tamarto · 27/02/2009 19:17

ClaraDeLaNoche -

It is just as annoying when people don't even bother to read the OP.

clam · 27/02/2009 19:18

OTHER TAB??????? You SURELY don't mean Netmums????

ClaraDeLaNoche · 27/02/2009 19:18

True.

I find with MN you need to get your penny's worth in early. There are only so many things you can say you see.

nomoreamover · 27/02/2009 19:18

yup

nomoreamover · 27/02/2009 19:19

no clam never been on there!!!!

clam · 27/02/2009 19:19

Well, I haven't read any of the Jade Goody thread, but I'm going to ask why she can't go and spend nights at his?

nomoreamover · 27/02/2009 19:20

the yup was for hecates about being a wimp - not yup it was netmums - just to clarify and avoid further lashings!!!

ClaraDeLaNoche · 27/02/2009 19:20

Why don't we pre plan a knock out thread where we all say the wittiest and most important things first?

Tamarto · 27/02/2009 19:23

clam - grrrr!!

qwertpoiuy · 27/02/2009 21:17

I couldn't be arsed
