if they have nothing better to do than sit on mumsnet thinking up unpleasantries about working mothers and their childcare arrangements to justify their own life choices.

bah!

typos!

jellybeans · 26/02/2009 14:41

I love being a SAHM it has changed me so much, used to be a WOHM. I do believe each to their own though and have WM friends.

smallorange · 26/02/2009 14:42

Oh am loving the SAHI idea. Maybe there's a piece for the Telegraph in there somewhere...

Gorionine · 26/02/2009 14:49

Oh no, not the Telegraph, I would much rather the Daily Mail...

georgimama · 26/02/2009 15:08

I'm going to become a SAHM when DS goes to university.

Applauds MadamDeathstare!! My thoughts precisely.

Waspie · 26/02/2009 16:43

Oh thank you!

I was still shaking with anger at insensitivity of the other thread and then I read this and find myself laughing as I realise that I'm a SAHM for the entire weekend Pass the chocolates and Hello magazine please

SnowlightMcKenzie · 26/02/2009 18:09

I like to consider myself not judgemental on this subject, but it makes me when WOHMs tell me I am lucky to be able to afford to be a SAHM, when the reality is my house is much smaller than theirs and I haven't a hope in hell of earning enough to pay for childcare for two pre-schoolers.

Again, don't believe one is 'better', it is just that some of us really, truly, don't have a choice.

smallorange · 26/02/2009 18:18

Georgiemama you will probably have to keep working when DS is at university to pay his bloody tuition fees.

I hope to put three DC through university so will have to get my arse back to work in the next two years.

smallorange · 26/02/2009 18:19

Yes snowlightmckenzie - once you have two children, childcare becomes much more difficult. Many friends are wondering whther it#s worth working when their nursery fees are more than their mortgage!

What a vile thing to say.

smallorange · 26/02/2009 18:23

no, children are parasites, ungrateful little blighters

smallorange · 26/02/2009 18:24

She must be so proud though.......

Hmm, wonder where he got that attitude from?

georgimama · 26/02/2009 19:42

The mentalist on that thread is back. I am much amused and greatly relieved to find numerous regular MNers, all of whom I have had vehement disagreements with on this and other topics, telling her that she is a nutter. So I am not going to post there again.

OK, I will become a SAHM when the grandchildren come along. I'll have to - I'll probably be looking after them!

It's like picking a scab, I can't stop myself from reading the other thread. I just hope this won't ruin the Masterchef final.

Where do people get their energy from to be involved in these things?

Kimi · 26/02/2009 19:53

What ever you do it is wrong.
If you are a SAHM then you are living off the state and your children will suffer

If you are a WOHM you neglect your family and your children will suffer

I have only worked part time on and off since I have had my children, (my choice) when I do not work we have lived on DHs wages and nothing else.

I never saw the point in going to work full time just to pay someone else to raise the kids I chose to have, so ok we did not have a new car or flash holidays but I don't think that has scared my kids for life, I have lots of other ways for that

georgimama · 26/02/2009 19:54

AIBU to think nurseries should be banned. You've got to read it to believe it. I've never seen MN so united.

ClaraDeLaNoche · 26/02/2009 19:57

Worst of it is when I went to pick up the DC from nursery they were in terrible form, really tired, me too, and then just for a split second I thought Oh No she's right, what am I doing.

I would stress that it was for a split second only!

KERALA1 · 26/02/2009 20:01

Why say the OP of the other thread is a mentalist? Because you dont happen to agree with her? She is posting her experiences of some nurseries I don't see what is wrong with that. Surely if you are using childcare you want all the information possible about the option you may go for?

Many people believe that nurseries (which I understand were originally developed for older children) are not suitable for tiny babies - its a valid opinion.

Where I used to live I found the boot was on the other foot. The other mums I met were all putting their babies into nurseries and I was frequently told that their babies were going to develop "social skills" and had the opportunity to do baby yoga etc to the point that I started to question my own ability to look after my baby. The marketing of these nurseries (which are of course essentially businesses) is certainly to be admired!

georgimama · 26/02/2009 20:03

I didn't say the OP was a mentalist. In fact I have specifically said earlier on this thread that the OP on that thread came back and apologised and all ended well with her.

I said the mentalist on that thread is back. The mentalist isn't the OP. If you had read the thread it would be quite clear who I mean.

Try to keep up.

ClaraDeLaNoche · 26/02/2009 20:05

I don't thing the reference to the cerebrally challenged was aimed at the OP.
