To think that this is a terrible concept for a film and the writers should be ashamed of themselve

Im pretty easy going when it comes to films and tv. while there are some programmes that i would never watch because i dont agree with the idea behind them, i accept that other people do. part of lifes rich tapestry etc.

however, Im horrified that a film has been released about a woman being haunted by the possessed spirit of her miscarried twin brother. it may be that im just ultra-sensitive on this subject. i accept that. but i think its a disgusting premise for a film.

I'm not a horror fan but saw the trailer and thought it looked pretty sick - and I don't have any sensitivities in this area. It just looks gross to me.

harleyd · 23/02/2009 11:34

yep
books always better tho
lol @ horror films about kittens

harleyd · 23/02/2009 11:35

oh dear god not hsm...im avoiding that like the plague

WilyWombat · 23/02/2009 11:42

I dont like horror films full stop...this one looks pretty much par for the course and I really dont plan to see it any time soon, if ever.

pingping · 23/02/2009 11:48

Loooooooool at Reality.

Op YABU and over senstive. If you don't want to see then don't watch it I won't be going the advert freaks me out enough.

Also there is plenty of people that have killed there parents and most films are based on a sore subject for someone.

What your saying is that it shouldn't be allowed because of the amount of people it affects in RL what about films that kill people by guns thats used for entertainment only the other week someone I knew got shot in North London so should all these films be banned.

The fact that its more fiction than fact should tell you alot I mean if your Twin died in the womb do you honestly believe he/she is going to haunt you its not real

bradsmissus · 23/02/2009 11:51

HSM3 is the latest on loop DVD in our house and I must admit, owing to a new found crush on Troy's dad, I am letting it go!!!!!!

OracleInaCoracle · 23/02/2009 11:55

hmm, maybe i am being over sensitive. this is an incredibly emotive subject for me and i got a bit upset at the trailer.

lol at kitten horror film.. oh, my.. whats that lurking in the shadows? let me tear my dress and go look without any backup... its a KITTEN and its licking me! arrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Exactly I was far more upset by the fact that they did a film about the twin towers.

I would hate this film but it is ultimately stupid gratuitous horror...I saw rendition last year I thought I was going to watch a fluffy Reese Witherspoon movie but was disturbed for days by it.

hostel kinda got to me a bit...i dont deal with eyeballs very well

UnquietDad · 23/02/2009 12:10

It sounds marginally less horrific than the "Shopaholic" film, to be honest. (And DW had a miscarriage so I would not make light of that...)

Ohh the shopaholic film (shudder) there seem to be a few bimbo movies about at the moment, again not my thing.

pagwatch · 23/02/2009 12:17

I hate horror films but I think the truth is that when a film is intended to upset then it is errr..... going to upset. Just for some people that distress will be more personally relevant than for others.

My personal thing is films with people with SN or autism in. Autism seems to be especially sexy with the possibility of savant and that sense that an autistic child is just there underneath the surface oftheir condition to be 'saved'.
Even House did it - getting the ASD child to approach him at the end to make a gesture of connection. As if all anchild with autism needs is House or Bruce Willis or Tom Cruise to be special enough to make that connection to free them. The implication that I am not important or special enough to do it. I find it distressing and upsetting but i recognise that it is only so for me and a few others with a particular history. It is just entertainment for most.

the thing I find extraordinary is that people who suffer huge personal tragedy, like the murder of a loved one can ever watch mainstream media again

chegirl · 23/02/2009 12:17

Ick

There are loads of films I think the world would be better without. I think I am in the minority though.

7 was vile.
'The miracle of the cards' is horrible and awful but for very different reasons - google it and you will get some idea of why, you have to see for to appricieate the full horror though

I saw the shopping one on Sat. I wouldnt worry about it, its going to be forgotten pretty quickly.

littleboysblue · 23/02/2009 12:20

I saw the trailor for it and said to my dp that I thought it was a bit of a sick subject for a film, my cousin was supposed to be a twin, but the other baby was lost in a mc.
Glad to know I'm not alone in finding it a bit odd.

Sycamoretree · 23/02/2009 12:38

It will be odd and sick to many, but that's kind of the point of horror movies - to take issues that transgress the boundaries of we find acceptable in our everyday lives and explore them, for entertainment, and if done well, sometimes for cathartic reasons.

I can't comment on this film - I've seen the trailor but it's not the sort of horror that I go for so I won't bother with it. Just don't go - there are far sicker movies out there tbh....

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 23/02/2009 12:43

Actually, I think the current crop of yucky woman-hating 'romcoms'(SHopaholic, He's Not That INto You etc) sound far more distasteful and socially damaging than the most taboo-busting horrors. From what I can gather about these films they seem to be consciously trying to put across the 'message' that women are stupid, malicious, useless and desperate to ensnare men, who despise them and are only interesting in using them for sex. Most horror films just want you to go 'YAARRRGGGH!' or @EEWWWW@ and spill your popcorn, really. And while women used to be a bit disproportionately dumb and victimised in horrors (it was always the girl running off in her underwear to get chopped into bits) these days everyone is cannon fodder in these films.

Flightattendant27 · 23/02/2009 12:59

It's grim, there are loads out there based on the same sort of stupid, infantile premise and just designed to paly on people'e emotions. I don't think it's any worse than most. They're shit really.

If anyone can recommend an intelligent horror story along the lines of silence of the lambs, something which makes for intellectual debate rather than shock value - I'd be interested.

Sycamoretree · 23/02/2009 13:05

Flight- Presume you might already have seene The Others, Sixth Sense etc. I also really loved WHAT LIES BENEATH from ages ago with Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfiefer (sp?)

I also quite liked a French one starring Kristen Scott Thomas a couple of years ago, but it was more of a thriller...
