to be annoyed at paying £108 at Toni+Guy and my hair looks like crap

What do I do? I asked for a cut and natural blonde highlights. The cut is great but the colour looks like ginger and grey mixed. With the layers it looks like a tabby cat. My skin is typical english rose so the colour is not flattering - it looks drab, mousey and horrid. If I go back though, do I really want them to work on it again?

I have never spent this much in a hairdressers and been this unhappy. My DH had said 'treat yourself' so he's paid for it and now he isn't saying much because I think in his caveman mind he perceives that my anger and unhappiness is aimed in his direction. It's not. I just don't know anything about hairdressers + am worried that if I complain it might be the restaraunt equivalent of the waiter spitting in my soup. Please help!

I had to go back once. I had a person who did'nt listen to me when I said that spiral cutting makes my hair frizzy and did want she wanted. When I got home though and actually saw how awful the cut was - one side was longer than the other by 2 1/2 inches, I measured! - I rang them up in tears and had to put the phone down twice before it could all come out. They offered for same person to do again but NOWAY I could let her anywhere near me, so the Manager of the other salon did me next morning and when I arrived with my hat on everone was looking at the grand unveiling and they were all appalled.
But they were lovely in the other salon, they don't like customers to be unhappy so Go and let them sort it, you deserve it.

flaminhell · 22/02/2009 13:25

Go back, complain, take some pics, they wont want you walking a round as a crappy advertisement for their services, so go and tell them its not good enough.

And if they are stupid enough to do nothig, this is a big corporate company, go straight to the top, it will be sorted in days.

Good luck

foxinsocks · 22/02/2009 13:27

we need to see a pic to judge how bad it is

Nabster · 22/02/2009 13:28

Definitely go back.

I spent a lot getting my hair cut and coloured yesterday and I do like it.

foxinsocks · 22/02/2009 13:30

I mean blonde to ginger and grey, well he's mixed up your colour with the old dear in the next chair hasn't he

definitely say something

Pendulum · 22/02/2009 13:32

salmon I have thick curly hair and T&G have butchered it recently. I went to a different salon yesterday and after a bit of prompting the stylist commented that yes, it did look like two different haircuts on the same head and the layers had been cut faaaaar too short (more or less a bowl on the head job). They always make me feel old and frumpy too.

OP, glad you had a good cut but I agree that they should redo the colour for nowt.

intheLiffey · 22/02/2009 17:53

two haircuts on the one head?! em, very fashion-forward, very edgy, very directional!

VERY shit. I have the same issues with layers. My shortest layers need to go to at lleast the top of my ears, or I look like a mop.

kiddiz · 22/02/2009 18:34

As a poor student I once went to Vidal Sassoon (sp?) in Manchester. It was a birthday treat from my Mum. It was the worst haircut I've ever had. One side was longer than the other and it looked nothing like what I had asked for. I was really upset. I did go back and complain and they did give me half my money back but since they couldn't stick the hair back on and it was already alot shorter than I'd asked for there was little else they could do. They also offered me a cheap hair cut the next time I went but surprisingly I wasn't keen to go back!

neolara · 22/02/2009 18:39

I've gone to back Toni and Guy when I wasn't happy about one aspect of my haircut. They changed it without getting arsey at all. I've generally had very good haircuts there and they always make a point of saying to come back if I'm not happy.

I would go back, say your not happy and ask for them to change it.

deste · 22/02/2009 18:53

I have also gone to Toni and Guy for years. The salon I go to train for years and then go to London for intensive training (6 weeks). They also give you a 40 minute slot. In fact I have never seen a haircut take so long by some of the staff.

Qally · 22/02/2009 18:59

I've never had a good cut at T & G. I found a good hairdresser 4 years ago and forgot the horror of a bad cut. Then I had it cut visiting family in Australia, and my God, I remembered why I was loyal to my usual place. Bright yellow hair and layers that looked like hell on earth.

I'm really sorry, there's not much as demoralising as a bad haircut. On the plus side, it'll grow out/fade very fast, and you'll look normal again. That's the downside with a good one, too.

Where d'you live? My hairdressers is a local one, but fab. (Jamie Oliver uses them, but don't hold that against them, it's not their fault.)

I also had the worst haircut ever from T and G. I am fairly chilled about hair figuring it all grows back eventually but I didn't even make it to the car park without crying !
I would complain if I was you.

piratecat · 22/02/2009 19:10

I had a hair dyeing nightmare at Toni and Guy about 6 yrs ago. They couldn't have been less helpful.

I'd planned a nice afternoon out, got a lift the 30 odd miles there, baby left at home with dh.

I wanted blonde highlights, and they cameout pink!! I went straight back in, as it hadn't shown in the dodgy light, but did show up in the BHS cafe!!

They were rubbish with me, didn't see it as a problem, and i felt like shit, even tho it took alot of balls to complain.

Eventually offered to re do it, but as it was such a hassle getting it organised in the first place, and the way they treated me, i just couldn't face going back.
cost about £80, and about the same to remedy at a local salon.

Wallace · 22/02/2009 19:19

I was just talking to friend today about her haircut from Toni & GUy. She hated it, and went back and the stylist who cut her hair went "humph" so she comlained and the head said that he will keep cuttin her hair for free til she is completely happy

BlameItOnTheBogey · 22/02/2009 19:19

Another T & G disaster here. I'm not precious about my hair at all but they gave me one of their 'one size fits no-one' mullet cuts and it took me months and months to grow it out. It was all sharp corners and choppy layers and looked terrible. When I expressed concern as she was doing it, she told me my hair was awkward. Wouldn't go near the place ever, ever again. I'd really rather cut my own hair.

But at that price you really should go back and ask for them to redo the colour.

MumOfBaby · 22/02/2009 19:23

I complained at my hairdressers in the summer and she did it again and much better for free and also a free cut! If you don't ask, you don't get!

Stefka · 22/02/2009 19:28

I also had a T&G disaster cut - it was just awful plus they were really bloody rude. I would never go there again.

MorningTownRide · 22/02/2009 19:28

I wa a 'model' for a friend of dh's for a job at T and Gs.

He pulled my hair and burnt my head - he got the job.

LucyEllensmummy · 22/02/2009 20:48

£108 for a hair-cut and highlights? >

Jux · 22/02/2009 20:56

Ah T&G. I used to go to a hairdressing school where they gave free cuts, and brilliant there were too. A lot of people would come in to have disasters from T&G sorted out.

PersephoneSnape · 22/02/2009 20:57

i get my DCs hair cut at T&Gs on great western road in Glasgow, and they are always fabulous - it's such a good cut that i can follow the shape etc myself for an interim haircut, then splash out on them again for a proper tidy-up.

that doesn't help Op though. I would go back. I seriously coudldn't spend that much money on a haircut and not be happy. print out the thread as well - this isn't exactly great publicity for them, is it?

Fairynufff · 23/02/2009 17:55

Went back today and calmly said I wasn't happy with the colour. They must be used to it because they basically booked another appointment for me without batting an eyelid. My only worry now is that it's with the same girl that coloured it in the first place - surely it is in her professional interest to argue the toss and protest that she only did what I asked for?
