he doesn't do valentines.

I do agree with his reason's but i must admit i would be happy if he changed his mind. basically he says that he tells me every day thathe loves me, why should he go out of his way to find a card that says it just to make Clintons happy.

fair enough.

well i was out shopping with a friend today and i felt sad that i wasn't joining in with all teh present buying.

so i got him a card, a little teddy and a helium balloon.

I wont be seeing him at all this weekend as he has his children from friday to sunday

SOOOOOO (here the AIBU bit) i have boxed it all up and posted it special delivery so it will arrive at his office tomorrow.

i know he will kill me, but i think that deep down he will kinda like that i have gone to the effort.
but now thats its all posted and sorted and i can't take it back im getting a bit anxious.

what do you think. sweet and loving gesture or making him look a prat at work?

If he is in a blokey office he will get the piss ripped out of him. If he's in a female dominated office, they might think it's sweet.

Apols for gender stereotyping, but you know I'm right

Will he like it? who knows, you'll have to wait and see.

But I'm with him that Valentines is a pile of shit! Romantic because the calendar says it's time? Pah.

RipMacWinkle · 12/02/2009 17:07

I would think sweet, loving gesture. Be mortified but deep down quite pleased.

DH on the other hand would be mortified and furious. I'm under no illusions about that. Threats to do similar things in the past have left me in no doubt about his feelings. And I really don't think he was joking. He does work in an all-male environment if that makes a difference.

You know your DP best though.

Good luck!

fattiemumma · 12/02/2009 17:12

it is quite a male office. its the head office of a construction firm.

he'll forgive me.....well at least he'll ahve all weekend to get over the sulking fit he'll throw

fattiemumma · 12/02/2009 17:21

yes yes i know it is naff. i have sent it as a bit of a joke really. there is also a tin opener in the box too as he has been moaing theone at work doesn't work.

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 12/02/2009 17:25

oh dear.

he is in for a bitch of a day.

I do think, on a serious note, that you have to respect someone's wishes, if he feels nothing valentinish for him please, then you have to go with that.

My DH would not be happy! he would be very embarrassed, I am guessing because his work colleagues would be thinking that he had married a child bride!

If I were you I would get the order cancelled or go into work and pinch the delivery before he receives it..

Failing this, expect him not to call you for um... ever..

Good luck...

Lulumama · 12/02/2009 18:06

it could go either way..

he will get a ribbing, that is for sure

if he does not do valentiens, teh last thing he will appreciate is a big public display of affection

yoiu might have done the wrong thing here

the teddy is possibly a clincher in terms of what not to give a man over the age of 15

is it holding a heart, with a 'funny' message ,like ' i can;t bear to be without you'

loobeylou · 12/02/2009 18:25

I think his colleagues will be well jealous!!

is there anything in to say who it is from??

londonone · 12/02/2009 18:25

I am embarrassed for you!

squeaver · 12/02/2009 18:28

What Hecate said.

I'm a bit worried for you tbh

alibubbles · 12/02/2009 18:28

I sent my DH 40 red tulips ( he loves them) last year to a very public office, he was the envy of 100's of people. They all thought it sweeeeeet!

VictorianSqualor · 12/02/2009 18:38

If I bought DP a present and sent it to work the issue would be what the present was.
A helium balloon, teddy and card, he'd be pissed and everyone would likely take the piss.

Tickets to see his favourite band or the rugby or some geeky star wars thing, he'd like it and his mates would joke, but then go home and hint to their partners about it.

AlistairSim · 12/02/2009 18:40

I think my DP would genuinely love it if I were to do something like that.

Shame it will never happen, really.

Please let us know if he's stiull your DP after the weekend.

Given one of your recent threads, wouldn't a big pot of Ky Jelly have been a more appropriate gift?

I am Tiredsville and have had a shit week, I was really looking forward to a good night out this Saturdary, but DH has stated today he can't be bothered for the sake of commercialism and 'lets have a cosy night in.'
I don't want a fucking 'cosy night in' I want to be spoiled. So I said 'well don't expect any fireworks this saturday'.
He then retorted 'Ok Pussy no more'

Hence my new name

PussyNoMore · 12/02/2009 19:17

Sorry back to OP, the teddy concerns me in an office environment, he could end up looking prattish.

tumtumtetum · 12/02/2009 19:29

Oh god no!

Someone once sent me flowers at work and I was so mortified I put them next to someone elses desk.

How utterly cringily hideous.

If DH did that to me I would kill him.

The idea is very funny, to actually execute it is not. Why didn't you just send him a card if you really felt the need to do something? A helium balloon next to his desk dear god he wll be utterly shamed...

alibubbles · 13/02/2009 08:04

I suppose I got away with it as he works away Mon - Fri,and colleagues have met me it would have been more difficult this year as I don't know where his office is in Brussels .

I'm still waiting for his present to arrive and it will be a romantic champagne breakfast, smoked salmon, scambles, bagels etc, before i whizz off to a conference!

tribpot · 13/02/2009 08:17

Oh dear. I fear he is not in a for a good day. Is he a senior person in the office?

alibubbles · 13/02/2009 08:27

"still waiting for his present to arrive" - the one I have bought for him for tomorrow!

squeaver · 13/02/2009 21:30

Well....?????

What happened?????

dizzydixies · 13/02/2009 21:37

I did this to my friend once, got one of those HUGE tacky satin padded jobs and sent it to her office, cheered her up no end - after she'd stopped beating me and saw the funny side
