Oh my god !! has anyone else had sky high gas and electric bill yet !!

I have just had my gas and electric bill through and on average it has cost me £180.00 a month to heat and use my appliances, i live in a three bed semi, not a castle in scotland, been on the phone most of the morning and apparently this is correct,(as she put it bills have gone up) has anyone else nearly had a heart attack at the cost of living lately, this is crazy

Yeah, we pay £40 a month for each, the electric is ok - we are about £300 in debit with the gas

Don't talk to me. We have an ancient aga type stove that is meant to do the central heating as well, for gas and 'lec it's £250 a month. Eye watering.

i'm on a meter and use just over £6 a day at the moment, and I am not excessive in what I use! Its driving me mad!

thankfully I'm on a "fixed rate" with my gas and electric - which I've managed to transfer to my new house. But I still nearly fainted at the cost of my gas from 21st December-7th February in my old house from the final meter readings - I know I had the heating on a lot but still a lot more than I expected for my final bill their.

Electic their wasn't too bad.

Yes ours was £597 for this quarter. Bloody Eon. Last quarter it was £240. We live in a 3 bed end terrace. Our gas alone was £405 and we don't even cook with gas so that's only the central heating.

for the quarter Sep-Dec my gas was £272 (which I wasn't surprised about as I had the heating on loads)

For end of december to start of Feb my gas was £183!!! Not sure how I managed that - but the readings were correct as I checked them myself

I know I'm going to be stung, I'm on direct debit at a fixed rate but my gas and eleccy bill says my direct debits aren't covering the cost. I'm sure they'll double them for the summer months to cover themselves.

Mine were £245 for gas and £152 for electric from October to January.

They put ours up £30 a month after my last meter reading. But it's not fair on the girls to have a really cold house - as it is we wear jumpers and have dedicated blankets in the sitting room to watch telly from under! So I don't think I'm being extravagant at all.

What does bother me is that we put in double glazing when we bought this house - before it was very dilpidated 1960s single glazing. The previous occupants must have been frozen - or very hardy!

Just had my quarterly electricity bill this week.

It's £454

However, my gas bill is always tiny (about £1.50 per quarter!) because I only have a gas hob, though I do use it every day.

I have electric storage heaters and an immersion heater for the hot water.

our last bills, oct-dec, were £200 each for gas & electric. am dreading the next ones, i wouldn't be surprised if the gas is at least £500, am preparing to use money out of our savings to cover it.

have just put the heating on, feel bad for doing so as i'm home alone, but am supposed to be working and i'm freezing, my fingers are like ice.

Don't feel bad, lucykate. We'll just eat less to make up for it. Or perhaps eat more, therefore have more blubber to keep warm in - I'm preferring the latter option already!!

we fixed out rate last summer, we pay 91.50 a month for dual fuel in a 4 bed detached (in the frozen north!) our last bill 23 dec was about £320

Ours (combined) is £162 per month at the moment, 3 bedroom end of terrace. From October to January it was £530....

Yep. Mine was £513 for electricity and £358 for gas. 3 bed terrace in London. Came just after Xmas, so dreading the next one.

The electricity was playing catchup on 2 years of low estimated readings, but still much bigger than I thought it would be. Have bought an OWL meter so I can keep an eye on it now we're up to date - so far the next one should be about £180 at even a generous estimate.

Sorry can I be nosey and ask, if anyone pays monthly direct debit, how much you pay, type of house you live and how often you keep heating on for.

I pay £35 a month for gas and £25 for electric. Live in 3 bed semi and have gas on for about 6 hours weekdays and all the time at weekends. In comparison to what has been written above I don't think I am paying enough.....oh plus I use the dryer every day which just consumed electric like nothing else......

amani we pay £91.50 a month combined, 4 bed detached, have heating on for about 8 hours a day, oven is electric but hob is gas, also have gas stove in sitting room which is on for a couple of hours most evenings at the moment, use drier about 5 times a week I guess

was it measured or is it estimated ? I ask because my neighbour (single pensioner) got a huge bill last week - but it was estimated and was very much over estimated. She was paying by direct debit - and have now refunded the extra they took.
