Dp and I are getting married - woooh!

We want to pay for it all ourselves and are on a pretty limited budget so got a good deal on some wine from a wholesaler. Since we bought it mil has not shut up about how she's worried it will run out half way through the reception and embarass her!! It is our wedding after all! So we siad fine we've bought loads of fizzy water and stuff and peeople can drink that and we don't actually want a wedding full of drunken people - at our expense!

Now she's rung me up today and said one of her friends has got a son (who I suppose we'll have to invite too now) who is something BIG in the catering business and he'll take the water away and sort out more wine for us.

AIBU to think mil should keep her neb out and that I should be able to sort out my own catering arrangements?

mp is that no the parable of the 7 foolish virgins and the 7 wise virgins?

Where's the Rev tonight? She could enlighten us further I am sure. Is she back from Evensong yet?

bruxeur · 08/02/2009 20:59

Oh ffs.

bangandthedirtisgone · 08/02/2009 21:00

We allowed for the equivalent of a bottle and a half of wine per person (provided by us) and by about 6.30 (wedding ceremony was at 3) people were at the bar buying more.

Hulababy · 08/02/2009 21:00

lol

Habbibu · 08/02/2009 21:00

bruxeur, she caught a fair number of people. MP - you made a joke, you didn't catch her out, so now . Should have realised at the "take away the water" bit...

bridetobewithinterferingmil · 08/02/2009 21:00

MP - I nearly crumbled then - bless you all - mumsnet is so helpful and lovely - even to daft new testament wedding planners! This thread shows one thing though - it is really embarassing to run out of wine!

unmask, then.

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 08/02/2009 21:01

5/10

I would have shouted troll ages ago but I have lost my confidence a bit.

bridetobewithinterferingmil · 08/02/2009 21:02

Oh and I think I cheated by mixing my parables - feeding of the 5000 was coming up next!

The best wind up one I ever read was Cod and he tesco clubcard one, about her dh allegedly having an affair. It was so believable she got told off by mnhq I think for distressing people!

Habbibu · 08/02/2009 21:02

bruxeur, why so cross? Harmless fun trolling. Maybe not the best ever, but not worthy of "ffs", surely?

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 08/02/2009 21:04

Habbibu perhaps she meant ffs at herself (?) for being taken in by it?

bangandthedirtisgone · 08/02/2009 21:05

at revealing extent of own friends and family piss-headery.

OP - 5/10.

Habbibu · 08/02/2009 21:06

Maybe, but she was talking about it being an old joke earlier. Ah well. Was the Cod/clubcard one deleted?

bruxeur · 08/02/2009 21:07

I find these threads dull and unfunny, and I think they contribute to the air of suspicion that leads to distrust and trollhunting.

But mainly because they're increasingly prevalent and JUST NOT FUNNY.

Habbibu · 08/02/2009 21:09

Would you have no fake threads then? I think good ones add a lot (Kitchen implements, anyone), but to have good ones you have to have bad.

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 08/02/2009 21:09

I bet it was deleted Habbibu. Although I did find a few Coddie contributions on an old thread earlier when she was using a slightly different name TheFish or something like that. All of the names with cod in them were removed.

The ones I found earlier were definitely hers, there was no mistaking her unique typing style was there.

bruxeur · 08/02/2009 21:12

I'm not sure I have the power to stop them, actually, but I'll have a go!

Agree wrt good ones, but the bad ones' instigators have to be prepared for a negative reaction. Just a bit, well, 6th form?

bridetobewithinterferingmil · 08/02/2009 21:18

bruxeur - sorry if this has upset or offended you - not my intention!

In fairness to myself i would point out that i haven't used this name for anything else - nor will i and i did literally spell it out in my post of 20.46.

Quite naughtily chuffed with 5/10 though - should i have said no babies were invited to get 7/10?

You got half marks for reeling people in but no more than that because it was f*ing dull OP.

Look, proper trolling involves an actual bunfight, ok?

bruxeur · 08/02/2009 21:19

God no, not upset or offended, just a slightly empty feeling that there's a few minutes of my life I'll never see again...

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 08/02/2009 21:20

That would have got you a 6 from me and that's my final offer.

Go on gis a clue - who are you?
