Ebay rage!

Fleurlechaunte · 06/02/2009 19:30

I managed to find a hard to find toy on Ebay that ds has wanted for ages. I paid £30.00 for it, it is usually £14.99 but unavailable anywhere at the moment. It arrived I was very pleased until I saw a little price tag on it saying £2. Obviously the seller found it in a carboot sale or something and that is what he paid.

I so know IV ABU but I am fuming anyway .

Oh dear

Ebay is full of this, I've stopped using it. I couldn't bear it!!

Fleurlechaunte · 06/02/2009 19:33

In fact I am so fuming that I put the V in the wrong place.

But think about the hours of enjoyment your son will get out of it

Dropdeadfred · 06/02/2009 19:36

you were happy to pay the price, so just enjoy your son's happiness

the seller may have had a lucky find and probably never thougt it would rasie so much cash..they might REALLY need that cash too!

wb · 06/02/2009 19:37

OK- and had you been willing to get up early every Sunday morning and drag yourself to lots of car boot sales (and therefore ending up spending £££ on stuff you don't really need) you could probably have got it for a couple of quid too. Personally I'd rather pay the £30 and be done with it

Flightattendant12 · 06/02/2009 19:42

No no everyone, the seller is a little old git with a laugh like Steptoe, and is rubbing his wrinkly old tar stained hands in glee at being in profit by £28 (not counting listing fee naturally)

she has every right to be cross

Fleurlechaunte · 06/02/2009 19:43

I know AIBU, I really do, I can't help it though.

You are right though trawling round Car Boot sales is not my idea of fun.

What is it btw Fleur?

Dropdeadfred · 06/02/2009 19:44

was it a buy it now price?

Fleurlechaunte · 06/02/2009 19:44

Thats it Flightattendant! I just can't stand the thought of him tittering to himself about how much money he made out of me, I bet he is boasting about it to everyone he knows.

OP posts:
southeastastra · 06/02/2009 19:45

you did buy it at that price

HellHathNoFury · 06/02/2009 19:45

You can't feel ripped off if you willingly paid £30 for it, irrespective of what they paid!

If the item is what you wanted, and you were ok to spend £30 on it, what difference does it make where they got it from and how much they paid?

I supplement my living by buying new and cut price goods and selling them for RRP on ebay. Other people could do their homework/legwork and get it cheap too. Doesn't make me evil.

Flightattendant12 · 06/02/2009 19:47

yes that is what all ebay sellers are like. All of them

Fleurlechaunte · 06/02/2009 19:48

No I bid on it.

It is a Mr Frosty the bloody snowman ice lolly set here.

Ds really, really wanted it and apparently it has now been discontinued.

HellHathNoFury · 06/02/2009 19:48

flightattendant - any idea how I can get rid of these tar stains on my hands?

Dammit, if only I could stop ripping off innocent people on ebay

Flightattendant12 · 06/02/2009 19:50

HH I am a veteran seller too, no offence

Dropdeadfred · 06/02/2009 19:50

well, just imagine that it probably cost pence to make in bulk, so even buying it in a shop would have meant the manufacturers making a mint on it!!

Fleurlechaunte · 06/02/2009 19:51

Why didn't he remove the price tag goddamit? That is what is making me question his motives. Did he leave it on so I would know how much profit he made hmmmmmm?

OP posts:
HellHathNoFury · 06/02/2009 19:53

Perhaps he put it on there just to get you riled. Perhaps he bought it on ebay for £40 and just wanted to mess with your mind.

southeastastra · 06/02/2009 19:53

was it boxed and in immaculate condition?

if so you know you must never open it don't you

Flightattendant12 · 06/02/2009 19:53

ROFL

Fleurlechaunte · 06/02/2009 19:56

I have been thinking that southeastastra, it is completely brand new. Imagine how much I could get for it in a few years time? How can I deny my ds though? Would you? This poses a whole new dilemma, now I dislike the seller even more .

OP posts:
southeastastra · 06/02/2009 19:57

i'd put it away , you can get the same results with a potato masher i reckon

blueshoes · 06/02/2009 20:14

So you bid it up to that price. The seller did not put it on for that price. There's your answer - YABU.

In any case, it is about what you are willing to pay for it, not about what profit the seller is making. You have to take into account the seller's effort in locating the item and listing it, judgment of the desirability of that item and the risk of the item not selling or selling for a poor price.

queenofbeas · 06/02/2009 20:14

YABU - the seller was smart - nothing wrong with that, shops mark up all the time. i hope you leave positive feedback.
