To worry about the professionalism of our nursery teacher? Don't think I am.

Background:
we have a lovely nursery here and all the children seem happy enough. The woman who runs it is friendly, smiley, very welcoming when you arrive. She is very musical which I like and often sings and dances with the children which is great.

But...

The other day the nursery was closed (due to snow I guess) and I saw her out of the nursery and her behaviour worried me a little.

She was singing, as she does, but i overheard her words and they were all about how happy she was to be off work
To the point that it made me wonder if she even enjoys her job at all.
Is it just a front for the parents when we are around?

Surely a true professional wouldn't make quite such a song and dance about 'not working'? Are my children in the right place with her? Should I try and find another nursery? (though there isn't another one in our village).

YABtotallyU.

I am a teacher. I love being a teacher. But I also love the unexpected bonus of a snow day! Who wouldn't?

You need to take a step back.

Ewe · 06/02/2009 12:43

I love my job but was thrilled to be off on Monday and infact I think I may have done a no work snow dance.

Coldtits · 06/02/2009 12:44

get a grip, yabu

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 06/02/2009 12:44

Utterly unreasonable!

DS1 loves school, but was thrilled to be off.

Lulumama · 06/02/2009 12:44

she was happy to be off work, due an unexpected snow day. and most people revert to being about 5 years old when they see snow

YABU and a bit harsh

she surely was not expecting to be overheard and picked apart

stickyj · 06/02/2009 12:45

Um I did that the other day...."I have no classes, I have no classes, I can eat choclit, I can eat choclit..etc Then two turned up and I put on my big, smiley face and tipped my coffee down the sink Even teachers are human, you know and she sounds as if she's lovely most of the time. I wouldn't worry.

stealthsquiggle · 06/02/2009 12:45

"Surely a true professional wouldn't make quite such a song and dance about 'not working' "

Get a grip. Are doctors not allowed to be happy about not being at work? Nurses? Firemen? So why should teachers be any different.

YABU.

2pt4kids · 06/02/2009 12:45

Who wouldnt love an unexpected day off to spend with your own family even if you love your job!

TheFallenMadonna · 06/02/2009 12:46

You're joking, right?

cmotdibbler · 06/02/2009 12:46

YABU. We all love a snow day, no matter how much you enjoy your job

Lulumama · 06/02/2009 12:47

i actually think this says more about you than her

she is not a teacher 24/7, she is also, brace yourself.. a human , with feelings..

violethill · 06/02/2009 12:47

Christ, are teachers not allowed to have a life outside school?

She wasn't working. She wasn't doing anything illegal.

You know, this thread is a bit of a joke, but it's a fine line between this sort of thing and the sticking-their-nose-in-meddling brigade that can seriously infringe on other peoples' rights. Get a grip.

JustKeepSwimming · 06/02/2009 12:47

Ok, but she was singing out loud on the bus and i thought maybe it wasn't too professional as lots of people from the village were on the bus too...

Is this a joke?

laweaselmys · 06/02/2009 12:48

I love my job (in childcare) I still loved my day off on monday building a snowman with DP!

TheProvincialLady · 06/02/2009 12:48

My DH was delighted not to be at work yesterday. He is a teacher. Admittedly he didn't make up a song. Get a flaming grip.

JustKeepSwimming · 06/02/2009 12:49

It was the waving around of the bowler hat that made me a bit concerned for her sanity too

NotQuiteCockney · 06/02/2009 12:50

She's genuinely happy and cheerful and inclined to sing out loud. She's not a funeral home attendant, it doesn't ruin her serious reputation in the village!

FAQtothefuture · 06/02/2009 12:52

awww JKS - chill (sorry for the pun ) out and enjoy your birthday

KingRolo · 06/02/2009 12:53

YAB very, very U.

You say the nursery is lovely, the children happy, the woman is friendly, smiley, welcoming. If so, I really wouldn't get worked up over this.

We all enjoy a day off to relax and chill out a bit. It doesn't mean she hates her job!

JustKeepSwimming · 06/02/2009 12:53

TBH, i'm also worried about her personal hygiene, she always seems to wear the same outfit.
Or maybe she has lots of the same things in her wardrobe?

JustKeepSwimming · 06/02/2009 12:54
