To think <bleurgh> at Next selling Rolling Stones T-shirts for 3-12 year old girls?

Yeah I know I should shop at Boden...

They also did Ramones ones, which I thought were an affectation rather than yuck.

I don't know why I feel this way - presumably because the Rolling Stones are still together as a band and are - IMO - a ghastly bunch of geriatrics.

Go on - tell me to get over myself.

I haven't seen these particular items, but I think they can be quite cool and a change from the usually chintz, schmlatz and froo-froo that girls have foisted upon them... when DS was born I was desperate to find a baby t-shirt/vest with Bob Dylan's 'The Times They are a-Changin' album cover printed on it. No amount of internet searching ensued but I had to admit defeat in the end [sigh].

ds2 aged 3 has Che Guevara pants and a sex pistols t-shirt.just because.

he might not 'be into' Che Guevara or sex pistols but im sure hes not that into stripes either.imo i prefer band t-shirts to 'im a little buggar 't-shirts.

if you dont like something-dont buy it-simple!!

this RS logo is far less appropriate than
this

i haven't seen the collection but i presume if its the RS it really has to be the gob logo.

its all about being age appropriate logo on a t-shirt - not the music.

the music might be great - it might be trendy even to listen to the RS ( i don't think they are all that great apart from jumpin' jack flash which was genius) and to some mums its certainly more 'rage against the cutesy machine' which they like

i just don't think its appropriate

in fact they have been selling t-shirts like that in NEW LOOK for ages and i haven't once suggested to DD that she buy one and DD is 15

somehow i don't want my daughter at 15 walking around with a gob on her chest

however if it isn't the gob logo = then i will have to re-assess my argument

rage on mummettes, but do it appropriately

I agree with Cheesesarnie. If you choose stripy or spotty tops for your DCs it's generally because you like them, not because your child does.
If you dress your child in Breton tops, linen trousers and canvas boating shoes (jojomaman) it's generally because you like that particular look not because your child's about to go on a round the world boat trip.
DS had a Who t-shirt from Amplified Kids because DH and I like music and DH wears Led Zep, Who T-Shirts too.
Whether you realise it or not most of us dress our DCs in styles that we like, whether that be spotty, stripy or music related.

It is the mouth one. here

I got the pink jeans for DD(7) and seeing as she has no colour sense at all was looking at t-shirts to go with them. I thought it was really nice until I read what was on it and shuddered.

As I said before, people keep saying "I bought my DS a XX band t-shirt" and are missing the point. It's not an objection to band t-shirts on the whole. Just this particular band, concerning a particular sex (female) at a particular age (3) who wear what they are bought.

Wasn't the phrase "Lock up your daughters" coined about the Rolling Stones? I suppose the equivalent for boys would be if they started selling a Madonna t-shirt for 3 year olds in the boy section. Another "rock icon" who used sex as a marketing tool in the past and is now looking (IMO) old and sleazy.

I have never thought the mouth was particularly sexual though. Are people suggesting it is looking for . . . ahem . . . mars bars?

My daughter and I both wear Nike t-shirts but then I have been a fan of Greek mythology since before they were famous and often tell her all about it too.

FfreckleFface · 08/02/2009 09:25

YABVVVVVVVU. Bloke and I are HUGE Stones fans, so much so that for a few (hormone fuelled, obviously) weeks after we found out little Ff was a girl I was adamant that we should call her Ruby Tuesday.I think Next ABU for not making them for babies...

Although, now I think about it, this is probably similar to the bunches/plaits thing. I have always said that as soon as she has hair long enough for bunches I am too old for them, so have to stop wearing them. As soon as she is old enough for a Stones t-shirt, do I have to stop wearing mine? (We will both be dressed in Welsh rugby tops today, but that is different )

magicfarawaytree · 08/02/2009 09:33

yabu - love those tshirts just not the price! just think it is a fab picture, better that those damn kittens!

FfreckleFface · 08/02/2009 10:25

Absolutely, magicfarawaytree. I am sick of pink kittens!
