To think that if you have 4x4...

... you should move across to drive in the snowy bit of road and leave the clear part to the ordinary car coming towards you?

It is, after all, the one time per year that your 4x4 is actually necessary in town.

I don't know why anyone expects to reason with someone who can justify buying one of those things when they live in a town/city.

They are clearly selfish and won't be reasoned with. If they are so into the thought of having a 4x4, you can get smaller ones which don't hog the road, have terrible visibility (so bad that you nearly kill my dd by reversing into me on a pavement in the middle of London and don't stop til I kick the back of the car screaming) and don't make everyone who walks past you think WANKER

tiredsville · 06/02/2009 18:20

Lol about being crappy driver. I've driven in America, Spain, France and Italy in a normal car and never had a scratch.
Amazing, getting hung up with other peoples vehicles.

violethill · 06/02/2009 18:23

Hear hear countess

sandy4 · 06/02/2009 18:49

I couldn't justify buying one - was a present from DH. as for the personalied number plate ....

warthog · 06/02/2009 18:53

yanbu

you'd think they'd move over. oh no. they don't move for anyone. except another 4x4 possibly.

agree countess dracula. i do think 'wanker' every time i see one.

sandy4 · 06/02/2009 18:56

what happened to 'don't judge a book by its cover'????

(what's a 'wanker'?)

sandy4 · 06/02/2009 19:02

wanker - vulgar slang - a stupid or contempible person.
contempt - the feeling that a person or thing is utterly worthless...

MitchyInge · 06/02/2009 19:10

how could anyone think wanker about this? he is beautiful

sandy4 · 06/02/2009 19:12

guess

MitchyInge · 06/02/2009 19:15

it's an iconic and widely adored piece of English heritage, the Series land rover!

look, churchill's one, see?

sandy4 · 06/02/2009 19:20

awe inspiring stuff mitchy. but would have to graffiti a 'P' on the reg.

MitchyInge · 06/02/2009 19:21

and look how beautiful this one is

do not understand the general lack of enthusiasm for them on this thread

MitchyInge · 06/02/2009 19:22

(although I don't feel very excited about freelanders, discoveries or range rovers)

sandy4 · 06/02/2009 19:22

churchill obviously thought the same judging by the 2 fingers almost down his throat.

sandy4 · 06/02/2009 19:27

Obviously I would only go the graffiti route as I am one of those stupid, worthless, 4x4 contemptible persons

HellHathNoFury · 06/02/2009 19:36

I have a 4x4.
It's not a style icon... it's a KIA ffs... but I love, love, love it, I love the way I can drive on skiddy icy roads nice and safely, the way I can fill it full of kids and dogs and shit, the way I can get it to my parents farm...

The only thing I hate about it is ill-informed people attitudes to 4x4's.

Mine actually has a smaller footprint and less emissions than a mondeo estate.
Yet I pay more tax etc.

Stupid.

And yes of course I'd get out the way OP.

My mission in life is to get people to see that not all 4x4 drivers are morons!

warthog · 06/02/2009 19:37

i don't mind 4x4's if you
a) live in the country with crap roads
b) need one for your work - whatever that might be
c) need one for space cos you / family have disabilities
d) have one of those volvo jobbies that have 7 seats for your myriad kids

fine.

awful if you:
a) don't have any of the above excuses
b) have a really expensive one like a cayenne, because there's no way in hell you'd want your precious expensive car to get damaged. so what's the point????

this is the only real 4x4 in my book. yes, i'm hard to please. yes, i'm probably a tosser.

MitchyInge · 06/02/2009 19:44

warthog: you prefer a toyota land cruiser to a land rover?

watch this!

MitchyInge · 06/02/2009 19:45

no no no I mean THIS

warthog · 06/02/2009 19:54

!!

i'm even more pro-toyota now!!

my friends who run safaris in deepest darkest africa won't touch a landrover. landcruisers all the way.

MitchyInge · 06/02/2009 20:07

landcruisers might be a bit more reliable - the defender got a bit higher though didn't it, in the vid?

I had to laugh when the door flew open, that happened to me twice before I learned to lock it every time - not on such a steep incline though

warthog · 06/02/2009 20:20

ah but the defender had the advantage of driving over vegetation whereas the landcruiser was driving up mud...

i can't believe i'm extolling the virtues of a 4x4...
