to not take my kids to school?

My childrens school is over 2 miles from our house, we have to drive as Ds1 and Dd1 both have cerebral palsy and can't walk that far. We had more snow last night, and none of the roads on the estate have been gritted so now we have sheets of ice under snow!! The school is attempting to open, but if teachers can't get in, they will close and notices will be put on the gate. I am not willing to risk our lives to get all the way there to be told that its closed TBH.

I'm glad Riven. That was beyond the call of duty

YANBU - I wish I'd not taken ds1 to school. I'm still shaking from the journey!

traceybath · 05/02/2009 09:31

Our school also open but they have boarders so have to be. But were encouraging parents not to come in today.

Also they have no grit for school grounds or roads surrounding - no way we were risking that. Also our lane is pretty unpassable unless in a tractor.

glad you got back ok Riven, take it that your Dd's wheelchair isn't snow-friendly either We need chains for the wheels lol

agree with Iwish, Riven. As two miles X four journeys in snow would be extremely hard work.

YANBU Sparkly.

Sorry Riven, that sounds tough...
can I ask why she needs holding all day (forgive me for not knowing the basics) is she not happy in her chair? does she not have any similar software or anything like that at home?

is your dh snowed off work?

Hmmmmm..you were having problems...on a thread you started you were going to see a docor (don't want to repeat here as it was personal)

Ashantai · 05/02/2009 15:52

Well i walked my son to school but it was the longest journey of my life! Slipping and sliding everywhere in my trainers (dont possess wellies or boots!).

Picked him up in the car for the return journey because it was a lot safer. Sorry about the environment and suchlike, but i was protecting my arse

I'm actually praying for more snow tomorrow so i can have another lazy day at home, although i put on 5 pounds from grazing all day . My poor old Wii Fit got a pounding last night i can tell ya

queenofbeas · 05/02/2009 18:17

YANBU. There was a thread about exactly the same thing the other day and a lot of posters said OP was BU. Depends on the Mn mood sometimes.

Don't Go!

I pushed DS's wheelchair through the snow yesterday morning - hard work, had to go backwards a lot of the way, but we made it.

By the time I went to get him, the pavement - which is on a slight hill - was sheer ice. Going downhill I could not get enough traction to hold the wheelchair from slipping away from me - it pulled me with it. (and I was wearing v grippy walking boots). I tried turning Ds round and me going in front - it was worse and I nearly fell over. The wheelchair breaks did not work - DS just skidded. It was REALLY dangerous. Another parent helped me get on to the road where the central bit was clear - just slushy. Then she had to walk ahead flagging down speeding van drivers...who themselves were slipping and skiddng - but did they want to slow down for a wheelchair in the road? No way.

Wimpy?

Maybe. I certainly wouldn't have done it again today with that amount of ice.

Dropdeadfred · 05/02/2009 18:35

Riven, I think if it's a smear then they prefer it not to be at that time...perhaps ask for an appt to talk to a gp first ?

Blu · 05/02/2009 18:36

oh - sorry - have just read the bit of the thread where Riven may have retracted her 'wimpy' proclamation !

I did plod through the snow to the shops on Monday - you have to walk as if you have wet your pants to avoid skidding!
