to think that boys are not harder work than girls?

So many mothers of boys seem to work on the assumption that it is a given that boys are harder work than girls.

Their boy is in to everything! And won't take no for an answer! And the MESS a boy makes! Goodness me it's exhausting looking after a boy.

Meanwhile my little girl sits demurely at home asking me to plait her hair, and reading sweetly from her book of fairy stories when I am busy.

Err... no. My little girl is every bit as revolting and chaotic and horrible as your boy thankyouverymuch.

(I have one of each by the way).

Well my first DS (now 22) was a text book child, easy going no trouble calm laid back etc. He is still mostly the same but does hide his feelings and quite often nearly rages about silly things, as in he holds it back but its obvious he is

DS2 (aged3) is well.... an emotional tornado and I really know Ive got him, he is th enmost loving kind child anyhow

I heard some Mums discussing something similar at pre-school and was quite shocked when two said that girls were 'bitches'. No matter how demanding my son is would never think such of him

In my experience, with my own, and nephews and nieces and god-children, there is a definite trend..

The boys are physically more tiring (running off, grabbing things they shouldn't, pestering the dog, refusing to do things in a physical manner etc etc...)

The girls break you down in a more mental/vebal way following you around, asking a million questions over and over, interrupting conversations and whining more!

I am about to have a girl to complete my one of each pair, so I'm for it now aren't I?

I have both and I think boys and girls are just as hard work as each other in different ways! In general, I'd say that boys demand more physical energy whereas girls demand more emotional energy

I don't think it is down to personality. DS2 and DD have the same personalities, however, DD is way more complicated than DS2. He is still, underneath the challenging personality, a simple creature where as DD is a simmering pot of complex contradictions.

I don't think there is anything wrong with admitting there are differences between the sexes. Whether one is harder than the other is a matter of perception though.
