Keeping my 'Chucky' dvd and not thhrowing it out?

I know its a rubbish film but I like it.

Some eejit let dd watch a clip of Childsplay last year and ever since she has been whinging that just looking at my dvd scares her. It used to be locked in a glass fronted cuboard where she couldn't get at it, but she made me move it as she could see the picture through the glass.

I moved it into the other cuboard, not locked but confident that she wouldn't attempt to watch it again. Thing is she sometimes looks in that cuboard so asked for me to move it again where she couldn't see it.

I moved it to behind a box on a wondow sill she cannot reach. But today some one must have moved the box and you see the dvd case again. She is now making her usual fuss and telling me to throw it out. DH says that I should throw it out. I paid good money for that dvd and don't see why I should have to throw it out because a five year old is being dramatic. I don't mind finding a new hiding place but I think throwing a perfectly good dvd in the bin is ott don't you?

YANBU

who in gods name let a 5 year old watch childs play anyway??

I think your DH is secretly scared of it too, so is moving it to your DDs view so that she will kick up a fuss and move it so he doesn't look like a wuss LOL

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2009 19:49

who was the pillock who let your young dd watch chulds play?

dont throw away, just re hide or put the dvd in a blank box case and write chucky on it

ps my friends charge looks like chucky

noonki · 31/01/2009 19:52

bit harsh calling her dramatic though. tis pretty scary and she is only five.

I have never got over watching part of the omen when I was six.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 31/01/2009 20:51

T'was her GP's. They thought that since I don't pay much heed to certificates on films and generally decide myself whether she is mature enough to watch something and that she likes scary films she would be okay. Cue weeks and weeks of "I daren't go to the bathroom incase Chucky is waiting for me" As I said they are eejits.

I too think DH maybe scared. He doesn't like horror films and always makes me turn them off stating they are too gory and making him feel ill.

I watched The Poltergist when I was young and remember being scared of mirrors for ages. My sister wouldn't step in a puddle for years. But I love that film now.

dh HATES polergist - he HATES clowns

IT terrifies him

It's a horrible film.

Put it in a drawer somewhere if you really want to keep the nasty thing.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 31/01/2009 21:01

Nightmare Before Christmas, Monster House, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carribean, etc

What did you think I meant? Nightmare on Elm Street? I was going to wait untill she was at least 7 before that was allowed

Maybe my parents were getting their revenge after I let my 8 year old sister watch IT while they were out on a sat night?

OP posts:
noonki · 31/01/2009 21:01

she's five she shouldn't know that scary films exist (unless you mean thatbit in the tigger movie when he nearly falls down the precipice!)

MillyR · 31/01/2009 21:01

I find this very difficult to believe. Surely no adult would let a 5 year old watch an adult horror film.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2009 21:02

as i said IT is scarey and terrifies dh even now (hes 35)

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 31/01/2009 21:04

Unfortunately it is true. She is no longer afraid to go to the bathroom and knows that its just a 'robot doll' being controlled by a silly man like 'janjar' and that it is all just made up. But she still won't have the dvd box anywhere she can see it.

SugarSpike · 31/01/2009 21:04

Surely there must be somewhere you can put it where ure dd wont find it, and tell her you got rid, she'll probably wanna watch it when she is a teenager.
I wasnt allowed to watch it when I was a kid but my brothers were...I was so jealous.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2009 21:05

put dvd in bottom bedside drawer

if i had dc wouldnt want them to go in there, with my buzzy friends

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 31/01/2009 21:08

I don't have any bedside drawers. LOL @ Buzzy friends.

I could move it into the kitchen cuboard at the back. She never goes in there as she cannot reach and it is full of herbs and spices and things she has no need for.

MillyR · 31/01/2009 21:11

If it is true, why aren't you on here posting something like 'AIBU to believe my daughter has been caused huge distress by the idiocy of her grandparents and I am worried about her and angry with them?'

Instead you just think she's dramatic and are worried for the fate of your DVD.

This has to be a wind up.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2009 21:14

do you not have a drwer for clothes etc and just bung in there

or as i said get a blank dvd case and put in there

warp cover with xmas paper

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 31/01/2009 21:15

It happened last year and I did post to ask advice about helping her deal with it.

I do think she is being dramatic now. T'is only a picture after all. She has no qualms visitinb the second hand dvd shop to buy new films where they have life sized replicas of Chucky on sale.

She is attention seeking because she knows that DH will side with her and then they will be like a little team.

Of course I was annoyed with my parents. How many times do I have to say they are eejits? What do you think I should do MillyR ban her from ever stepping foot in their house again?

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 31/01/2009 21:16

Yes I have a clothes drawer but she likes to go in there to play dress up. I think the kitchen is the best idea or putting it in a blank box and putting the cover in a file with the paperwork untill she is older.

I judge by the indivual child TMMJ and not teh age cert on the film. My friend has a daughter the same age and I wouldn't let her watch those films. But dd1 is more grown up. Lots of her friends are older than her so she hears them talking about these films and wants to watch them herself.

She has only ever seen the first and second HP. I haven't seen the others so can't say whether I would let her watch them.

There is a mahoosive difference between Pirates of the Carribean and Childsplay.

noonki · 01/02/2009 18:15

I got scared at Pirates of the carribean AND LOTR

IdrisTheDragon · 01/02/2009 18:20

I had horrible nightmares after watching LOTR.
