I don't blame you. Her spelling's awful. It should be Hecatewotsit, shouldn't it?

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 03/02/2009 22:59

Ta. Is it right it takes 72 hours for the physical addiction to break? The nicotine?

unavailable · 03/02/2009 23:13

Well done Hecate!
You have definitely done the hardest bit.
Keep on keeping on.
Before I gave up, I couldnt imagine myself as a non smoker (smoked since I was 14, gave up at 40!)Now I cant imagine why I did so for soooo long. I really dont miss it.

onebatmother · 03/02/2009 23:28

Bloody well done. Really. I gave up 2 years ago and it was firkin hard.

72 hours for immediate nico addiction, I think so, yes.

After that it's behavioural - harder when it hits, but less constant ime.

Huge cheer to you for this and overcoming the hurdles that have brought you to the op.

xxxxxxx

I'm told lemon drinks help get rid of cravings, and glucose sweets.

My oldest friend gave up 20 or more years ago by telling herself she would have the next one later. She kept telling herself that, and as far as she is concerned, she hasn't had it yet.

Just wanted to agree with what some others have said. I always liked your posts in your old name and as Hecate, then discovered one day that you were one and the same

Good luck with your op - I have wondered from time to time how you were doing and when it was. My dc2 is due on the 21st so lets hope we both do ok!

My friend's Dad has just had a massive heart attack and has not regained consciousness since Friday.... he smoked most of his life.

Hectate you are giving yourself the best chance, keep it up.

And even more luck with the surgery, a new start 'eh? Brilliant, this has lifted my day.
(I am a frequent name changer , as I disclose too much, and remember the thread about your predicament and how it affects so much of your life)

squeaver · 04/02/2009 14:42

Well done H!! Have you read the Allan Carr book? I only ask because you're clever and literate and it's helped lots of clever, literate people I know.

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 04/02/2009 15:49

no. because it was only recommended the other day and I've been skint

I may buy it. But up to press, I've still not had one (since saturday!) and still fine. Don't want one actually. Odd, but I feel fine.
