to think that dog poo should always be picked up?

Because I'm getting sick of going for walks with MIL, her little dog doing poops and her saying, "Oh, you can't see that, it's in the roots of a tree,", me saying, "But a child could fall in that. It's disgusting." I once even said, "What kind of a pig leaves dog shit lying around?" but it's the same every time.

She just doesn't get it. I get really annoyed because each of my DCs have fallen with their hands in poop and it's the most disgusting thing ever.

I have often thought that there should be poo wardens, like traffic wardens, who can issue on the spot fines to people leaving their dogs turds. I always imagined they would have a brown uniform and they could even have a lovely hat in the shape of a........

I think it's true about people letting their kids walk the dogs and the kids can't be bothered. But the really bad culprits clearly walk their dogs late at night or early in the morning.

cctv everywhere
prison

I'd be happy with that! I'd sign the papers for them to be sent to another continent! And their dogs with them!

I have taken to none violent direct action. There is lots of poo on the pavements leading up to our school, and recently I have been taking chalk with me, chalking around the offending poo and writing "No thank poo". I can't claim any originality or inventiveness - I saw that suggestion on here a few months back!

ipanemagirl · 23/01/2009 17:15

Respect to you HandleMeCarefully for direct action. But how can the Shameless be Shamed???!!!

I hated cat poo in our garden, but now have the perfect solution - we got a terrier (which we do clear up after).

I hate dog shit with a passion, it is vile and one of the worst smells ever.
I was helping DS1 get his shoes off recently not realising he has stepped in dog poo, and I got a handful of dog shit, which made me heave.

My mother once told a lazy dog owner that if they didnt pick up their dog's poo she woudl follow them home and then report them and give their address to the police - she is a brave woman...

Pick it up and pop it through her letterbox the next time you are passing!

BarcodeZebra · 23/01/2009 20:49

Rub her nose in it. It's the only way she'll learn.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/01/2009 10:18

Ok ... what about blind people with helper dogs? I assume they're exempt from the poop laws? (I can't see how they can be expected to pick up?)

mysterymoniker · 29/01/2009 10:23

look

I never thought about that before!

LucyEllensmummy · 29/01/2009 10:32

mamhaf - that is EXACTLY why we got our terrier!

NQC that is an EXCELLENT point and im pretty sure no one would be chasing a blind person down the road with a poo bag . Maybe the dogs are trained to go at home? But accidents happen i guess.

One gripe i have is this: There does seem to be a lazy bastard around our area just now and the road I have to walk my child to school on is covered in dog shit on a regular basis and NO-ONE cleans it up. Its disgusting. Now, i know that whoever owns the dog is responsible for clearing up after it, but unless they are found out, they are blatantly not going to - so i think the council should clean it up, but nup - it will be there for weeks until the rain washes it away i guess. I guess i could go and pick it up, but im not about too, but surely the council does have some level of duty to keep the streets clean?

LucyEllensmummy · 29/01/2009 10:34

oh and get this: Because of said dog shit, someone has taken direct action and has gone around with little home made flags declaring this to be disgusting and illegal and has put their flags in piles of poo like sandcastles!! The irony being, i was so busy looking and laughing at the flags that i stepped back into a giant turd!

NotQuiteCockney · 29/01/2009 10:55

I only thought of it because we have a blind woman in our neighbourhood who walks her companion dog at the end of our road. I was walking towards her today, at around, and I could see she looked anxious. (I was working at scuffing my feet a bit, so I wouldn't be 'sneaking up') The park they were in used to be very very poopy, and is less so now. I just wonder if people abuse blind people over this ...
