I have been reading this site for a while but every time I come to stick my toe in the water something kicks off and it always seems to be same people in the forefront of it

I know that any site has big personalities. But I am finding it difficult to join this place, which I would have liked to be part of, because every time I have time to post between work and children, there seems to be a big argument brewing abot nothing: stuff like changing names and people posting elsewhere.

I think i'm asking whether it is always like this and whether I should just give up

BMC had one of the funniest childbirth stories I've ever read on it, which I reposted (with credit given) on the inappropriate giggle thread. I love it here though, and I don't think many tightwads mumsnetters will be in a hurry to leave: this place is like crack!

sausagenmash · 20/01/2009 15:44

See - this is an example of what I mean - I've just been lighthearted about the soggy nappy thing - but in SOME threads, SOMEone would say that that would be wrong of me to say that, nearly every nappy has poo in it, get over it, its a fact of life that you have to deal with, its part of the joys of motherhood, if you can't deal with pooey nappies, then you shouldn't have become a Mum etc etc blah blah... Then I just think 'siiigh.... bugger off'..... ho hum. Does that make sense? >

I'm new here and haven't got in any fights yet. What am I doing wrong?!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 20/01/2009 15:47

Just don't take it all so damn seriously. There's a little magic icon at the top of your browser you can click if you wish.

chickenfortea · 20/01/2009 15:47

Oh I could have written OP, When reading threads I have come across several posters who seem to be unreasonably aggressive.
I've started a few threads and the some of the responses given have put me off asking for advice.

FAQtothefuture · 20/01/2009 15:47

Fimble - you're obviously not spending enough time here yet

Don't worry give it a few more weeks and you'll be as addicted as the rest of us

chickenfortea · 20/01/2009 15:48

sausagemash, don't mean your nappy throwing am always happy to have sanitary items (soiled or otherwise) thrown at me!
In fact it could be a new game on wii fit!

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 20/01/2009 15:52

Fimble - you are clearly not putting the effort in.

Sausage - I get what you mean. There will always be pouncers, no matter where you go. And people who seem to be searching for something, anything, they can take offence at . It doesn't matter. Ignore it. Most people are sane. (not me, but most!)

got to go now, someone at door. will be back!

It could be a new olympic sport - tossing the nappy - extra points given for poo-ness

I'm not finding it addictive yet I must admit. I'm sure I could in the same way I enjoyed BMC and it's difficult to switch forums and be happy I suppose, but I don't want to pay to chat about rubbish.

I do love teh inventiveness in some of the names.

OP posts:
follderol · 21/01/2009 16:31

I love that I had a thread with responses though. I can see that could be addictive

ruty · 21/01/2009 16:36

'i don't want to pay to chat about rubbish'

Quite.

MN has been a bit odd over the last few months. It is all because of..[someone throws a potato sack over ruty's head and leads her away before she can speak]

squeaver · 21/01/2009 16:37

Hmmm you're not finding it addictive eh? Give it 2 days....

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 21/01/2009 16:37

IMO there are lots of arguments some with reason, most are petty squabbles blown out of proportion.

There are some very big personalities on here, some mouthy, some bolshy, some blunt, most caring above and beyond.

You get a bit of everything, take what you like and leave what you don't.

Personally I like the fact that it's not all hugs and kisses and you get good straight forward honest answers were they are needed. Even if it is not what you want to hear.

MN can be a great support network when you feel you have no where else to turn or need an impartial opinion.

georgimama · 21/01/2009 16:40

I'm loving the idea that someone would want to hide individual posters. Can only imagine who you mean.

LackaDAISYcal · 21/01/2009 16:44

welcome to MN folderoll, but with your name you need to be prepared for people asking you if you are a troll

can't believe no-one has done it already

there has been a lot of recent upset, but it'll all blow over for a few hours days weeks months until the next one. Some things do make me question why I spend so much time on here, but then I remember the help and kindness and general camaraderie that exists cheek by jowl with the nastiness and think that I don't want to lose that side of it.

and sometimes a good ruck is just what the doctor ordered

LackaDAISYcal · 21/01/2009 16:45

Could you imagine the levels of paranoia that the ability to hide individual posters would cause?

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 21/01/2009 16:48

I'm already paranoid.

Come on hands up who would hide me?

No one?

See I do't even get noticed.

GumsNRoses · 21/01/2009 17:02

Now you see them now you don't

No it would never work.

troutpout · 21/01/2009 17:16

It's big enough here that it doesn't matter. Just don't click on.
Marla is right...there is room for everyone.
The moment anyone thinks they own it is when it goes downhill anyway imo...let em flounce
welcome to mumsnet btw
