They ARE. They are so pretty on the outside, but them impossibly dreary on the inside, taste horrible, and upset my stomach. They're WRONG. Just wronng.

Hmmm. Will retire to the corner and sulk for a bit.

Don't LIKE pumpkin!

Or aubergines...

blueshoes · 18/01/2009 16:22

Aubergines are lovely. As are mushrooms in all their incarnations.

All 'A' vegetables (ok, fruits also) are nice - aubergine, asparagus, artichokes ...

Don't really have a view on pumpkin- but it is not objectionable.

Mushrooms are lovely, except when in risotto, which really is the work of the devil.

troutpout · 18/01/2009 16:34

oh god yes..
so pretty on the outside and then like a hideous watery, bananary sponge when cooked..

They are the devils work it's true

BouncingTurtle · 18/01/2009 16:34

YANBU - they are yacky!

I won't eat moussaka!

Nekabu · 18/01/2009 16:41

Yum @ aubergines & pumpkins & squash & mushrooms & oooh yum! You lot are making me hungry!

Habbibu · 18/01/2009 16:42

"so pretty on the outside and then like a hideous watery, bananary sponge when cooked.." Exactly. It's just such a massive disappointment.

Nah- aubergines are cool, once you get past the feeling you're slicing into a baby seal which is how I always feel.
Pumpkin IMO tastes like it's gone off.

Thunderduck · 18/01/2009 16:43

LMAO.Slicing into a baby seal?

Habbibu · 18/01/2009 16:44

Think Bucharest has just supported the case for the prosecution. In a very vile way.

Sorry! And I like them! (had them last night sliced and baked in the oven with layers of smoked mozzarella and tomato......)

HuwEdwards · 18/01/2009 16:46

lol @ "slicing into a baby seal". I will never again slice aubergines without thinking that!

HuwEdwards · 18/01/2009 16:49

that aside though, I make a delicious aubergine, cheese and potato bake which is DP's favourite dinner, but on their own, they really have no flavour.

If you have to drizzle a vegetable with oil and garlic, then it's probably to mask the taste of it, or in the case of an aubergine, give it taste.

Nekabu · 18/01/2009 16:50

HuwEdwards, recipe please?! That sounds scrummy!

LyraSilvertongue · 18/01/2009 16:51

Generally disgusting but I made a Delia moussaka with them once and it was utterly delicious.

foxinsocks · 18/01/2009 16:51

they are vile

I'm sure they exist to ruin perfectly good moussakas

Habbibu · 18/01/2009 16:51

OY!!! Don't go posting aubergines RECIPES on this thread, you damnable saboteurs!!!

duchesse · 18/01/2009 16:52

Aren't baby seals furry?

foxinsocks · 18/01/2009 16:52

aaah x-post Lyra

I'm sure your moussaka was delicious

Habbibu · 18/01/2009 16:52

I'm beginning to think you all use them as tasteless padding... Like the culinary equivalent of Krystle Carrington.

waspriceyp · 18/01/2009 16:54

Aubergine - vile
Moussaka - even viler

It was a bit of a faff because you have to fry the aubergine slices with seasoned flour first and they soak up all the oil, but worth it in the end.

Nekabu · 18/01/2009 17:02

HuwEdwards, please ignore Habbibu and post your aubergine, potato and cheese bake recipe! Maybe once she reads it she'll come over to the dark side and be tempted to sample an aubergine or two ...
