To think that it is not acceptable to steal under any circumstances?

Recently when I visited a friend of mine he had a very nice, expensive looking clock on his wall. He told me that he had stolen it when drunk - it had been delivered to a shop but was outside in its packaging. I thought this was truly awful but because he was drunk he seems to think that reduces the whole thing to a joke.

He went on to say 'well it's ok to steal to protect your family' er, no it isn't!!

I read the other day that Dustin Hoffman is a klepto. Says he has to have something from evry hotel he stays in whether it's a towel/bed side light/toielt roll holder. WEIRD.

Sorry, but I'm still PMSL at this thread.

I just am.

expatinscotland · 15/01/2009 20:04

And no, I've never shoplifted in my life, always too scared of getting caught.

GivePeasAChance · 15/01/2009 20:04

That is genius Riven. I love that.

GivePeasAChance · 15/01/2009 20:05

I got strange shoplifting urges when pregnant with DS 1.

College reunion - the suit of armour that was taken from the hotel was sent back from many different counties.

I'm laughing at the fake banana.

expatinscotland · 15/01/2009 20:06

I've probably bought stolen goods in car boot sales. I've been given stuff I know to be counterfeit. Ach, well.

geordieminx · 15/01/2009 20:08

PMSL Riven. Sorry

beanieb · 15/01/2009 20:11

It is OK to steal to protect your family.

expatinscotland · 15/01/2009 20:12

And sometimes, it makes for a funny and entertaining thread .

Remind me of when I was at universtiy and my housemates stole a picnic table from outside a pub

Took a whole picnic table up a really steep hill and thought it was funny.

(I wasn't there at the time btw.)

expatinscotland · 15/01/2009 20:18

I'd have thought it was funny.

expatinscotland · 15/01/2009 20:20

I wouldn't have done it myself, but I would have thought it was funny.

GivePeasAChance · 15/01/2009 20:23

I knew someone who stole a cow............

electra · 15/01/2009 20:25

I know what you all mean in that some of these scenarios have comic value -- but really the reason is does is that it is a naff thing to do!

what did they do with it, peas?

in high school, the rival school's American football team were called 'The Rebels'.

they had this papier mache mascot that was 'Johnny Rebel', dressed in a Conferderate soldier uniform.

i knew the group of people from our school who went and stole that mascot, wrapped it up, and put it on a freight train to California, with a note to the team: Johnny Reb's heading West.

yeah, i found that utterly hysterical!

Doobydoo · 15/01/2009 20:30

I live in Brighton and one night several yrs ago while driving home late I saw a guy walking on the seafront holding onto a big letter 'P' that he'd obviously stolen from the Palace Pier (before it was called Brighton Pier) it was about 8 to 10 foot high and covered in lightbulbs, god knows how he got it! This sign for the pier was huge and quite high up. I admired his audacity!

Jux · 15/01/2009 20:38

Wasn't it Plato who said that someone who committed a crime should be punished for that crime, and that someone who committed a crime whilst drunk should be DOUBLY punished - for the crime and for putting themselves into the state where they will commit the crime?

Or something.
