to consider giving the DDs a day off on friday because they will be tired and i really don't want to have to get up early and fight with them.

we're off to the theatre thursday eve. will be back very late (about 1am-ish)
would it be shockingly lax to consider not getting up friday morning?
after all a theatre trip will be educational.

how old are they?

AugustusGloop · 14/01/2009 20:04

Our school sent a ( government generated) letter saying a late night was not a reasonable reason.

janeite · 14/01/2009 20:04

I think unreasonable tbh. We still have to go to work even if we are tired. DD is at the theatre with school tonight and won't be home until at least midnight but she will have to cope.

Depends how old they are

BitOfFun · 14/01/2009 20:06

I would keep them home myself. Nice lie-in, do some schoolwork with them or send them in at lunchtime.

DisasterArea · 14/01/2009 20:07

10 and 12. and am very much not the take a day off because you want to type. they have to be actively bleeding to consider a day in bed usually.

OP posts:
wotulookinat · 14/01/2009 20:09

I think they are too old to take the day off because of the theatre trip.
Maybe you shouldn't have booked it for a school night.

BitOfFun · 14/01/2009 20:09

Trust your instincts then- I think Riven has it right!

Lilyloo · 14/01/2009 20:11

Take them in later maybe

janeite · 14/01/2009 20:11

It's not that Riven. It's that they have a "duty" to attend school unless they are ill, in the way that I have a "duty" to attend work ditto. They can always have an early night on Friday to catch up.

DisasterArea · 14/01/2009 20:12

problem is it had to be that night. am orf to covent garden to see carlos. v special and not going to happen again in my budget any time soon.

Sort of depends how old your dc's are but I hardly think that one day will matter. I took my ds to a concert at Wembley when he was in yr3 and I knew we wouldn't be home until the early hours but I was totally above board with the school (his teacher actively encouraged it because she liked the band we were going to see ) and they didn't question it. You could always ask for extra work for the weekend if you're that bothered!

stickybeaker · 14/01/2009 20:13

We were never allowed to take time off, and I think it has instilled a sense of responsibility in my brothers and I.

I think it's a good lesson to learn that going out on a school night has consequences, like it would do if they were working or SAHMs.

DisasterArea · 14/01/2009 20:13

and it will be educational and they will probably learn more by going to something special than they will during a normal school day.

OP posts:
DorisIsAPinkDragon · 14/01/2009 20:14

They may be fine in the morning but struggle more on the sat tbh they will probably want to go and tell all their friends about how great it was.

Don't think they would miss out massively but think you need to play it by ear, if they appear fine then school.

You on the other hand will not get a lie in

DisasterArea · 14/01/2009 20:14

DD1 is adament she will be going anyway. DD2 will be a miserable wreck - she likes her 11 hours a night

OP posts:
georgimama · 14/01/2009 20:15

I don't think the issue here is how much difference missing one day's education is going to make (it's not going to make any difference really), it is that you have a contract with the school that your children will attend. And this is not a good enough reason for them not to attend.

Bunking off is wrong, unless mum says you can because it's for something she wants to do .

Sorry but YABU.

DisasterArea · 14/01/2009 20:16

AND IT IS CARLOS !!!!!!

OP posts:
quint · 14/01/2009 20:16

Then I don;t think they shoudl have the day off. Give them an early night on Friday and have your lie in on Sat

juuule · 14/01/2009 20:17

I agree with Riven, BoF and Helsbels.
Enjoy the night out.

DisasterArea · 14/01/2009 20:23

stoppinattwo · 14/01/2009 20:24

I tinhk you should take then in, when they are ready to go in iykwim...dont rush them, but they should go in, you never know they may be up and ready!!!!

georgimama · 14/01/2009 20:25

He looks splendid, very um, rippled. I'm not suggesting you don't take the DC to see the show, just that they need to go to school the next day!
