£115 hair disappointment, wwyc?

MrsSeanBean · 12/01/2009 22:09

I went to the hairdresser today for a full head of highlights to lift the colour of previosly coloured brown hair. I am a natural mouse colour who is usually blonde, but a couple of months ago decided to go dark for easier maintenance. Having decided it just didn't suit me, I booked in for full head of blonde highlights to take me back to blonde, or at anyrate not so dark.£115 later I am really disappointed, the highlights seem very fine and almost indiscernable. I did not expect to be totally blonde again in one go, but did expect to see more of a difference. I am not a natural complainer and have never complained to a hairdresser before, but I do feel a bit 'short changed' and that I should see more of a result for that money ( and 3.5 hours there). Would you complain? If so, what redress should I reasonably expect? Or should I put up and make the best of it?be gentle with me, feel skint and miserable

Oh no. What did you say at the time? I would have been to scared and gone "ooh lovely thanks", even if they'd given me a number 4 all over..

fryalot · 12/01/2009 22:11

A HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN QUIDDDDDD????

SHEESH, I?D WANT IT BLOODY PERFECT FOR THAT。

NOT SHOUTING, HAVE JUST BUGGERED UP KEYBOARD AND IT?S COMING UP WITH SYMBOLS WHEN IT?S ON LOWER CASE (TWATTY COMPUTER [WINK] [YES, I KNOW THAT WON?T WORK, BUT YOU GET MY DRIFT。。。)

harleyd · 12/01/2009 22:12

i would go back

slushymummy · 12/01/2009 22:12

Def complain. I'd expect them to re-do it for you as it hasn't been done how you wanted it (presume you said you wanted it lighter etc)

Good luck, be strong !

scrooged · 12/01/2009 22:12

I would complain. Call them tomorrow and ask to speak to the manager, just tell them you are unable to tell what's been done, despite asking for lighter highlights. They should re-do it for you for free as they don't want their customers talking to each other.

fryalot · 12/01/2009 22:12

OH, I SEE I?VE BUGGERED UP MY KEYBOARD FOR CAPS AS WELL。。。。 SORRY FOR SCREWING UP YOUR THREAD。

OFF TO RESTART COMPUTER WILL RE-POST WHEN I HAVE SMALL LETTERS。。。。

DragonLowFatSpread · 12/01/2009 22:13

Hmm, it does take a while to build back up to blonde though doesn't it. And it's more sensible to build up the highlights than to have masses and masses of highlights done in one go.
maybe your expectations were too high?

oh i don't know, I feel bad for you, but i bet it looks great, just not quite what you had planned.

LynetteScavo · 12/01/2009 22:13

The same thing happend to me once. I had my firend with me, so I was feeling braver than usuall, and said there and then, "I can't see any difference!" We went outside with a mirror, and they agreed to do the higlights again the following saturday (for free). This was pre DCs so I had time.

Go back ASAP, and tell tehm you honestly can't see a difference. Was it your usual salon?

TheInnocentBystander · 12/01/2009 22:13

LOL at Squonks harrassed message

snoringnightmare · 12/01/2009 22:14

Yes definitely go back. You are not happy and haven't got what you asked for.

fishie · 12/01/2009 22:14

yes quite i would expect a new head for that.

did you tell them properly what you wanted? why have they done this?

catsmother · 12/01/2009 22:15

Most conscientious hairdressers want their customers to be happy because bad experiences mean bad publicity when people tell their friends.

I'd go back, and explain that once you were home, had a proper look etc., you were rather disappointed and the overall effect wasn't what you asked for. Ask if they can rectify it for you and hopefully, at this point they'll agree. If they seem reluctant, I'd add in that at no point was it pointed out to you that what you'd asked for was unachievable or unrealistic ..... which it should have been, if it wasn't going to be technically possible in one visit.

£115 is a lot of money - you have every right to point out you haven't been given what you wanted.

Heated · 12/01/2009 22:15

Get Squonk and her twatty computer to email complaint to hairdresser on your behalf; it'll look like you're incoherent with rage and they'll offer immediate redress.

bellavita · 12/01/2009 22:15

I would ring and complain.

At a previous hairdressers, the stylist did my highlights and when I got home felt cheated and though they just were not blonde enough - so I rang him and went back in free of charge.

fryalot · 12/01/2009 22:15

right, I'm back with a proper keyboard.

I think that they would probably be fully expecting you to love your new hair, and for that price, you really should love it.

I really think you should go back and explain that it wasn't what you expected, and for that kind of money, you really expect more of what you were after.

They will probably be okay about it, it is a lot of money (well, I think so, anyway)

MrsSeanBean · 12/01/2009 22:17

I just said 'great, that's broken it (brown) up a bit' thought maybe it was just the light in the salon, have always been happy before but am really pissed off, especially given what I paid. It's difficult to say anything there and then I think as I like to see how it looks in daylight etc.

fryalot · 12/01/2009 22:17

(sorry, I appear to have come back to the thread with a fully functional keyboard whose only fault now is that it keeps placing the word "really" in all my posts. Several times.)

TheYearOfTheCat · 12/01/2009 22:18

I had this a few months ago - I phoned my hairdresser, and apologetically explained I wasn't happy with it. They were great, and I went back in to get it fixed - no problem.

I think the key is to be polite about it.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 12/01/2009 22:18

Go back and tell them you want it more blonde. They may well have thought that as you were dark, you wanted more of a sun-kissed as opposed to blonde-blonde look. This happened to me and I sat in the chair happily agreeing that all was lovely and then fumed all the way home . DH insisted I go back as I was in such a foul mood and actually the salon were fine about it (was Toni & Guy in Wimbledon).

TheInnocentBystander · 12/01/2009 22:19

It is a lot of money to not be totally happy. I think you have to do it, ring them as others have advised. Its not unreasonable to do so at all, just a bit nerve racking for you.

ilovelovemydog · 12/01/2009 22:24

Yes, definitely call them tomorrow. I like the, 'saw my hair in daylight...'

Also, could use your DH as an excuse, along the lines of, 'he couldn't tell the difference....'

Actually maybe that's not such a good idea as a lot of men can't tell the difference even with a great haircut/color

MrsSeanBean · 12/01/2009 22:32

DH was a bit when he saw it but is claiming it is fine to try to pacify me. I know he is lying however (I just know these things!) and his face was a picture when he saw me, confirmed my suspicions that bugger all has changed! Thanks all, will try to pluck up courage to call tomorrow, but I am such a crap complainer and so apologetic! Too darn polite for my own good probably. Squonk, I may call on you to compose an incoherently outraged email if need be.

I have gone from brown to blonde, with half-head highlights and full-head highlights far too often and it has looked bad, good and indiscernible, depending on the skill of the hairdresser. A good hairdresser will leave your hair looking great, and blonde. I don't think that's too high an expectation.

I had an awful experience in C- W-, where I was given a "Hoxton Mullet" (I wanted layers) and my hair was died a shade I can only describe as grey.

I was so upset I went back and complained, after having paid ... and tipped. They gave me a refund and offered me a re-dye with their top colourist, which I didn't take up (rather foolishly,) because I was so upset at the time.

So, a bad experience but good customer service.

A good hairdresser really wants, and expects, you to be pleased with the end result. I think you should tell them. I'm sure they'll want to make you happy.

Good luck.

[I have to get mine re-done and I'm actually slightly worried now. My old hairdresser has moved to Hastings and I need to find someone new. It really is quite nerve-wracking.]

Jbck · 12/01/2009 22:45

I'd use daylight excuse & say you met a friend for lunch, dinner whatever who asked if you hadn't had time to go to your appointment type thing.

If it's not your usual salon they might try a bit of flannel, e.g. takes a bit of time to build colour etc but for that kind of money you want to be able to see a difference.
