2 monsoon dresses and cardigan that would HAVE to be worn to a wedding or something as they are such posh dresses!! I mean I am totally thankful for them as they are gorgeous but theres no way she will wear them, and if she does it will be once, for the novelty and thats such a waste! Would rather get romper suits - do monsson do them?

Also the 2 sets of pants and tops bought for her ... shes too small to wear pants, the waist babd would be so uncomfy for her!!

what size are they? i agree rompers more useful, all the items will be in monsoon sale though, could you swap for a larger size maybe?

MinnieMummy · 12/01/2009 19:55

YANBU - lovely idea for a gift, but if you know they're not going to be used, what's the point in keeping them??

But then maybe I am biased as I took back £60 worth of xmas presents that are duplicates of stuff we already have!

tassisssss · 12/01/2009 19:57

I do this all the time. I try to swap for stuff for the following year.

dizzydixies · 12/01/2009 20:00

no otherwise its a waste of their money - my MIL buy frilly, lacey stuff for DDs all the time and as she never sees the girls I thank her very much and take them back and swap them for stuff they would wear

hopefully all without offending (she never knows tbh)

swap for larger sizes or for something she could wear

dizzydixies · 12/01/2009 20:01

oh and you need to change your name

DisenchantedPlusBump · 12/01/2009 20:01

they are 3-6 months, i have no reciept though.

do they still have their tags? a straight should be fine and if not they will give you a credit note for what they're worth in store now - lets hope its not stock thats gone into the sale

DisenchantedPlusBump · 12/01/2009 20:03

Its a bit gutting as they are soooo lovely and the sort of thing I imagined dressing her in but she has ALOT of dresses anyways.

Its DS2s birthday in june, she will be 6 months then, but 3-6 i dont think will fit her at 6 months, shes a chubber!

tassisssss · 12/01/2009 20:04

IME Monsoon baby stuff's small so don't hold out for it to fit her at 6 months! If exchanging it do it soon as they're reducing stuff more by the day!

hotbot · 12/01/2009 20:22

let her wear it then ebay them?

pamelat · 12/01/2009 20:27

I exchanged things for bigger sizes. Until DD was 6 months or so, I could not be bothered to dress her in anything other than babysuits

DD now 12 months and is in size 18-24 in Monsoon. They are not very generous.

solidgoldsoddingjanuaryagain · 12/01/2009 20:29

Ebay them?

DisenchantedPlusBump · 12/01/2009 20:42

Id be mortified if the gift giver saw them on ebay

OP posts:
EyeballsintheSky · 12/01/2009 20:46

I exchanged lots of things for bigger sizes, some things for different things altogether but still lots of clothes just got passed by if I didn't know where they came from. DH's work bought a beautiful dress and coat set, not my choice of colour but lovely. For a 3 month old FFS. A dress and coat set! Didn't know where it came from, DH has the tact of an elephant so couldn't trust him to ask, so they went unworn. A shame but...

naturalbornmum · 12/01/2009 20:59

Take them back and don't feel guilty, you can buy something she actually needs. Monsoon do lovley (posh) everyday numbers.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 12/01/2009 21:06

I had the same when my dd was born - someone got dd a beautiful silk dress that was even dry clean only! crazy, and I knew she'd never get a chance to wear it. I ebayed it and then bought something sensible that could withstand a washing machine .

ZacharyQuack · 12/01/2009 21:13

Put outfit on baby, quick photo before any pooing or dribbling action, put baby back in sensible clothes and return the dress to Monsoon or ebay it. Send photo to gift giver. Everyone's happy.

noonki · 12/01/2009 21:14

I constantly take back presents or pass them on.

I dont think mine were in anything other than babygros those first few months

EachPeachPearMum · 12/01/2009 21:22

I exchange things bought for baby- like you I wouldn't put a tiny newborn in anything with a waistband- DD had reflux, and would have been in agony!

I haven't had any problems so far... but people usually give me a gift receipt.

I have also sold some things on ebay, but that was 18 mo after receiving them, and I doubt very much the people who gave me the items would be looking at the millions of baby items on ebay!

Why do people buy little shoes for 0-3 mo babies?

Leo9 · 12/01/2009 21:25

just enjoy them and put her in them! They sound gorgeous (though I agree about waistbands/jeans looking uncomfortable on babies)

TBH you can get about 100 babygros for £1 at asda - YOU can buy those: other people are treating you to stuff they know you wouldn't buy so I say accept it and put her in it and enjoy it. Babyhood is one of the only times you can wear sparkly partywear to the supermarket!

I think it would be a crying shame to get rid of it.

pudding25 · 12/01/2009 21:43

I took back loads of stuff but it was stuff I didn't like. FWIW, DD (8mths) always wears fancy party dresses! I love dressing her up (Can you tell I loved dolls as a child!

FfreckleFface · 13/01/2009 11:27

Little Ff is constantly in pretty yet inappropriate clothing. Bloke is one of three boys, so MIL spends an absolute fortune on frilly, sparkly, dresses, that I have to dress her in. Christmas Day was a prime example - I had to take a silk (yep, SILK) skirt off the poor child because she was desperately crawling but not going anywhere because it was so slippy on the carpet. I would personally keep her in dungarees - hard wearing knees, and useful straps for grabbing when she is crawling too close to the radiator/dog bowl/tv wires - but she does look ADORABLE in the pretty stuff.

ladyjuliafish · 13/01/2009 11:40

I took back over £200 of 3-6 month clothes when ds was born. I could have dressed him in a different outfit everyday and still had too much.

stillstanding · 13/01/2009 11:42

Good heavens no! Go for it. People give such impractical presents and they would never know.

laweaselmys · 13/01/2009 11:45

I'd buy one of the dresses off you if you want - I've been looking for something for a wedding in june (DD will be 3/4 months) but most of the party dresses seem to be sold out post christmas...

Although, I do sort of agree with others. The particularly nice things I have been given already will be kept and DD photographed in them to send with a thank you card. People like to see your DC in the clothes they've given.
