2 monsoon dresses and cardigan that would HAVE to be worn to a wedding or something as they are such posh dresses!! I mean I am totally thankful for them as they are gorgeous but theres no way she will wear them, and if she does it will be once, for the novelty and thats such a waste! Would rather get romper suits - do monsson do them?

Also the 2 sets of pants and tops bought for her ... shes too small to wear pants, the waist babd would be so uncomfy for her!!

When my dd was born she was the first girl in either dh's family or mine for 20+ years so you can imagine I was asolutely inundated with loads of pretty frilly dresses including 6 handmade smocked dresses made by mil. With the best will in the world she would never have worn most of them..I would have had to change outfits about three times a day. So I admit those which I was less keen on and that I was able to exchange I did. There is a period in a baby girl's development when dresses are completely impractical anyway. DD used to get so cross trying to crawl in a dress. She always ended up crawling up the inside of the dress and ending up face down in the carpet!!

Mmmm, might be worth a word to the posh dress giver about the practicalities of dress wearing, or they may keep on doing it.

My MIL bought several dresses this summer for DD (in her defence 1st grandchild, and she only had boys) on of which was WHITE polka dot with TULLE underskirt, and shrug cardie.

DD was 18 months.

IMO Ridiculous. And a waste of money. Whilst it would be better to just wear things, I'm not sending DD to nursery in a white dress, they would think I had finally gone mad.

Not unreasonale at all although I do like soft leggings for newborns. Mine go into them at about a month as I detest babygros, the poppers drive me nuts.

Oh no, am devastated at the crawling in dresses being too hard! I have just bought dd a ton of stuff in the sale for 12-18mths. Can babies crawl in frilly tutus? (at the rate she is going at 8mths, I doubt she will crawl anyway).

I took back hundreds of pounds worth of clothes that DD received at birth and swapped for different things or larger sizes.
I was grateful to receive everything but even changing DD 10 times a day would still not have got through all the clothes.
So many peoples money would go to waste otherwise and that would be a terrible shame.
Change for things that will be used.
