is there some intrinsic reason that children need to wear vests even if they do not wish to, claim not to be cold, and are healthy in every way I can see?

what kind of food?

quote is excellent
what about "it's something you wear when grandma is bored and feels like winding up mummy"?

my 2 don't own vests

they have long sleeved and short sleeved tops and on days like these they wear one o each.... but often strip off the longsleeved one before the day is out as they're 'too hot mommy'.

dd is renowned for stripping off in playschool while other kids wander around in outdoor coats as it's kept so hot compared to our house she can't stand it.

it's good for them, toughens em up

Nice sauces, interesting flavours. Actually, they have a real mania for pumpkin seed oil, which is very tasty indeed (tastes almost like balsamic, nice and dark, and a drizzle adds a lot of flavour), but doesn't appear to exist here. I may have to go to the Austrian deli in town.

We had a really nice meal in the old imperial greenhouse or orangery, which was truly lovely.

The buildings are all a bit overdone.

And it was a bit strange staying with my friend and her newish boyfriend. I've known her for 30 years now, but not really known any of her partners.

NotQuiteCockney · 09/01/2009 19:28

Oh ... I can buy it in capsules, as a health supplement ... wtf?!?

Ok, guess I will buy some to drizzle on salads or whatever.

HappyPSYCHOnewYear · 09/01/2009 19:30

I make ds (19 mo) wear bodysuit vests, but only till about easter, it just keeps him all tucked in - I have a 4 yo dd who is tiny and skinny and cries on the way to school at the moment because it is so cold, so she is most definitely wearing a vest at all times ! DD1 is 6 and is like me, a very hot person who comes in from school and whips off tights and jumper and walks round a cold house barefoot etc. No vests for her, it would drive her crazy ! And me

Definitly a mum thing - I think all my dds vests have been purchased by my dear mother! They have far too many to ever wear them all.

Ooh and if I may just thank Franny for her advice last week when I posted about dd1 turning vegetarian on me ! Advice was fab, and I am pleased to say she is sticking to it, and has tried all manner of new things this week, nuts and seeds and things I thought she'd never eat !

She came into the kitchen yesterday to witness me pricking sausages under the grill, turned her lip up and asked ; "so you're stabbing a pig are you ?" in the most distainful voice a 6 yo can muster ! Made me laugh I have to say.

Sorry for the hijack there !

Flamespar · 09/01/2009 20:15

I rarely stick vests on mine.

Crap mother

I'm a vest enforcer - in fact they love wearing their vests. as do I.

Ref catching cold, if they are cold, their bodies (& ours) use too much energy trying to warm up, rather than grow. So if there are germs to be caught & you're cold, you're more likely to get get an illness, whether it's just snuffles or flu.

trulyscrumptious43 · 09/01/2009 21:08

Due to inadequate heating/ insulation, I am wearing
Thermal vest, T shirt, long sleeved T shirt, big cardi, thermal long johns, jeans, 2 pairs of warm socks, fake Ugg slippers, and huge fluffy hooded cardi thing. Oh and a hat. Still a bit cold.
DS is cruising about in T shirt and school trousers, clearly has nordic blood in his veins.
Bit fed up of feeling like the michelin man actually but it's started snowing again outside...

pinktulips sorry to hear that i will try and mail you over this weekend.

for the record dd loves her pretty thermal vests which admittedly were from my mother . she finds them comfy and they are sweet looking.

moshie · 10/01/2009 19:36

Anyone remember the heatwave of 1976? My friend, aged 11, wasn't allowed out one day, because she wasn't wearing a vest under her t-shirt.

And another heatwave, temps of over 30 degrees C, SIL put a vest on 8 week old baby, under a dress, and then spent all her time trying to keep her cool with a mini fan.

Vests optional for winter, but a definite no-no for summer surely.

Simplysally · 12/01/2009 11:02

. I can just remember 1976 (I was 4 that year) but I'm sure I didn't wear a vest that summer!!

When my dd was born, after a few weeks she wore a vest and nappy as her outfit in the daytime but 2000 was a hot summer. I didn't make her wear stuff over the top on very hot days.

TheLadyEvenstar · 13/01/2009 07:14
