is there some intrinsic reason that children need to wear vests even if they do not wish to, claim not to be cold, and are healthy in every way I can see?

Useful for PE lessons for DD2 and DD3.

JB1985 · 30/03/2013 13:15

Vests are essential and outs to be the law LOL what a lot of hoo-hah about such a practical item.

Mandy2003 · 30/03/2013 13:38

DS chooses to wear a vest (well, short sleeved tshirt) as he has sensitive nips!

4YR OLD THREAD ALERT!!!!

My dgs wear soft cotton vests under their school shirts because they both have very sensitive skin and the vest stops the rashes.

flip should have looked at the date [bublush]

cumfy · 30/03/2013 15:15

Just tell her he doesn't wear pyjamas either.

A cardiac arrest might ensue.

vests make more washing. Once my kids started to dress themselves they dumped the vests and I never bothered getting bigger sizes. And we are in Scotland, but we do have heating and big coats for outdoors.

determinedma · 30/03/2013 17:47

Ds 11 hasn't worn a vest since he was a toddler. Has an unfortunate habit of going commando too - just hates tight things, and labels and layers and....just not worth the hassle really.

Roseformeplease · 30/03/2013 17:50

No vests in this family, no illness and we live really far north...

Is there someone with a vest fetish going around ?

FryOneFatManic · 30/03/2013 19:56

DD (aged nearly 13) would not be seen dead in a vest, and reckons she's not cold.

DS (aged 9) only wears a vest instead of a PJ top in bed. Which still has a 4 tog quilt on (he gets too hot), despite the heating going off at night.

I get warm easily and can cope with cold better than heat, so I often just wear a thin jumper on top (and bra, of course). Mum reckons our house is cold, but it's fine for us.

FullOfChoc · 30/03/2013 20:08

I enforce thermal vests here and always sport a natty one myself. (I'm a lunchtime supervisor so outdoors a lot).

I can enjoy my day knowing the kids are snug and warm out in the playground. It's cold out there and I am horrified at what some children wear to school in freezing weather, (skirts, ankle socks, thin rain jacket) their parents cannot realise they are out in it for up to an hour a day, more if they do outdoor PE. They tell me they are cold and I always try to find a reason to send them indoors if I can.

Wrap 'em up!

Zombie thread...but who is Franny & Zooey now?

stealthsquiggle · 30/03/2013 20:16

I never wore vests as a child (I suspect DM got a hard time from her DM) so it never occurred to me to put them on DC once they were out of nappies and poppered vests. Until DD (DC2) demanded vests for school. I eventually caved to the nagging, but she never wears them at home, and DS gave me a proper Hmm look when I asked if he would like some for school.
