... to resent a man looking after *his own kids* being referred to as "babysitting"?

Aiigh! Have heard this three times in the past week (from different people, talking about different children/dads) - the first time I thought I'd heard wrong, the second time I made a sarky remark along the lines of "oh no, he's too busy with our son to look after anyone else's children right now" (this was the only time it was about my DP not some other dad), and the third time I just gave up and boggled.
Do people say this all the time and I've just tuned it out until now?

Why is it babysitting at night and looking after in the day though?

heard this for the first time recently when a plasterer told me he's been fired from babysitting as his wife had returned home at 1.30am and found him, toddler and baby all still up watching TV. He was delighted with himself. I was stunned to silence as his wife is someone I know quite well and it was might first time meeting him. where do you start?!

nappy - guess babysitting is used at night as child is meant to be asleep so we are meant to be sitting on our bums watching tv/o MN

unlkie the day, when we are looking after our children and not sitting on MN

I'm pregnant at the mo and a few people have said things about DH "babysitting" some times. I do find it a bit baffling! I think if it's just a term used for either parent, that's fine, but if it's used only in relation to men looking after their kids, it's sexist and annoying.

Don't get families where men don't do housework either.

YABU, it's just an expression, which I have used. It's just short hand for I have the night (or other time) off and my DH (or partner or SO or whatever non-offensive title for the father of your children you deem is acceptable) is looking after the kids.

No big deal.

Oops, some probably find "kids" offensive too!
