To expect my DH not to eat garlic if I haven't been eating it too?

Sorry but whilst I've nothing against garlic and am not adverse to eating it myself in some foods, the smell of it on peoples breath when I haven't been eating it myself literally makes me wretch.

If DH goes out and has a curry/kebab or something and I haven't had any and he comes back smelling of garic, I can't tolerate him being in the bedroom. The smell of his breath in the room can even wake me up out of a deep sleep. It's vile and it last the whole of teh next day too. Toothpaste and chewing gum can't mask it either - YUCK!!!!

If I know he's having it, I can have it too and then it's not a problem - we can stink together and neither can smell it - but I have to have advance warning if he's having it!

Anyone else with similar feelings on garlic who has to lay down the law like me?

oh what a fab thread.

TWINSETinapeartree · 03/01/2009 22:41

If dp eats a yogurt or cold custard I cannot sit on the sofa next to him and if it is close to bedtime there will be no hanky panky.

notnowplease · 03/01/2009 22:44

get a bloody life!

donnie · 03/01/2009 22:44

yes but twinset does it wake you from a deep sleep?

ClaireDeLoon · 03/01/2009 22:45

YABU

TWINSETinapeartree · 03/01/2009 22:45

Me or the OP, have you come from the rudeness thread?

TWINSETinapeartree · 03/01/2009 22:46

No it doesnt donnie but I one did wake up to see dp licking a yogurt lid while in bed with me.

I had to sleep in the spare room.

PottyCockinaPearTree · 03/01/2009 22:46

I used to feel a bit like this about an exbf of mine who drank a lot of milk.....it somehow seemed to come out of every pore on him and really turned my stomach!

TWINSETinapeartree · 03/01/2009 22:47

I forgot my ultimate turn off, those milkshakes in a bottle. They have been banned from the house while I am in it, the thought makes me want to vomit.

notnowplease · 03/01/2009 22:47

the op of course.i am hoping to get sent to naughty corner

TWINSETinapeartree · 03/01/2009 22:48

Yes I cant watch someone drink milk either, god knows how I got through motherhood.

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 03/01/2009 22:48

MN is particularly bitchy tonight...

If the smell of garlic can wake you from your sleep and makes you gag, then you are obviously very sensitive to it.

I suspect these same women would be up in arms if it was a smell as offensive to them..

Tinker · 03/01/2009 22:49

I would eat more, tbh, if I was your partner. I love garlic, hardly have a meal without it, so much so, I don't notice it at all on anyone any more. Just eat it and enjoy it.

TWINSETinapeartree · 03/01/2009 22:49

Well I think you are very rude notnow I will happily send you to the naughty corner

Sunshinesmith · 03/01/2009 22:49

one of our family members used to be addicted to garlic pills- I couldn't stand visiting him in the summer when it was hot and he would sweat digustingly garlicky smell!!!

my sympathies!

MarmadukeScarlet · 03/01/2009 22:49

I have a very sensitive sense of smell, my DH wears too much aftershave (more than 6 decent sized bottles per year).

It can make me feel physically ill.

He knows this and continues to do so.

I have every sympathy.

I love curry, he hates it, he cannot even cope with the smell. I do not have it when he is in the house, I only eat one if he is away for the night. It is called consideration.

mazzystartled · 03/01/2009 22:50

general garlic yabu

foul kebab stench mixed with beer = night in spare room

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 03/01/2009 22:50

this thread is hilarious

I have a major aversion to runnerbeans meself, I have to divorce my dh if he eats them

btw, I posted this after reading the other thread, just to further irritate the OP

donnie · 03/01/2009 22:51

I am soooo wanting to start a pointless new thread on people's favourite weird smells. Mine is petrol. Or least favourite: bananas.

Somebody else do it!

Tinker · 03/01/2009 22:52

But you can do without curry every night so consideration about that is relatively easy. Most tasty meals contain garlic; I don't consider it an exotic ingredient.

southeastastra · 03/01/2009 22:52

maybe you're a vampire

Tinker · 03/01/2009 22:53

I wonder if Gunnerbean likes runner beans?

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 03/01/2009 22:53

I looooove the smell of hot tarmac

Sunshinesmith · 03/01/2009 22:53

My pet hate are couliflower cheese farts-

WE DON'T COOK IT IN MY HOUSE- last time my hubby almost made me vomit! yuckkkkkk
