Our daughters go to playgroup together. Quite innocently we arrived at conversation about mumble GF mumble and shared a look of understanding. Upon further conversation we discovered that we both use parenting forums, her Mumsnet and me elsewhere (probably won't name them, wouldn't want to get off on the wrong foot )

Anyway, blah blah blah, we share a lot of the same views, and both enjoy taking the piss out of fuckwits who we are infinitely better than

So I've been trying to find her on here and have tracked her down but to my dismay she has no public profile so I couldn't read her past posts. I almost electrocuted myself crying into my keyboard sob sob

Is it wrong to try to look for people you know in Real Life who are on forums? What say you?

Slur - did they find the body of the other one yet?

faeriemoo · 01/01/2009 00:28

justunaccomplishedsanta - hullo. Is it against MN's policy for me to now be searching your posts to try and work out who you are?

Lol @ Slur

Nah search away nothing to hide here. Want to see if you can guess who I am now.

justunaccomplishedsanta · 01/01/2009 00:30

Oh a clue I'm one of your facebook friends.

faeriemoo · 01/01/2009 00:33

faeriemoo · 01/01/2009 00:36

faeriemoo · 01/01/2009 00:37

Ah hullo!

Are you AL on Facebook?

I haven't been using mumsnet that long, but what seems to happen, is some of the topics are obviously lighthearted and some topics can get pretty heavy. When the subject is something that is personal etc. then I have noticed (well, told to us by the poster) that they have namechanged.
If your new friend knows that you use any of the mum/chat forums, then if she wants to keep certain things private, she also knows that she can namechange (or not, as not everyone feels the need to do this)
To be honest, I can see why it would be tempting to see what sort of 'chat' she gets into. I am not quite sure if its appropriate to do this though, but I wouldn't be surprised if she was doing the exact same thing.

squik · 01/01/2009 00:41

Nooo, please don't. If she just clicks on who you are by reading this post, you will be either despised or ridiculed by her for cyber stalking.

SalLikesCoffee · 01/01/2009 00:53

Well, what's done is done I guess.

Probably best never to mention anything she's said online, even though you've told her already.

Happy new year to you too.

saggyhairyarse · 01/01/2009 11:23

Why don't you just ask her what her username is? If she says she wants to be anonymous, you have to respect that. I agree with whoever said 'get a hobby'!

faeriemoo · 01/01/2009 12:34

Oh my god, how do people use message forums without the ability to read??

I know her username, she told me.

Is there an 'exasperated' emoticon?

I guess there really is no difference between MN and other forums, still people willing to jump on another for whatever without actually bothering to take the time to read what they say!

faeriemoo · 01/01/2009 12:54

Hmmm, a nice rabbit stew would go down quite nicely.

I wonder if my stalk-ee has a rabbit. Hmmm, I obviously do not stalk her quite well enough as I do not know!
