To expect guests to have a bath (main bathroom) or a shower in my ensuite?

Guests have arrived today, they have stayed lots of times before. I have explained to them they can have a bath (which has a shower attachment) in the main bathroom or a shower in the ensuite on my room. There is a seperate shower in the main bathroom but it does not work as the shower head is broken - they have turned up today with a showerhead which does not match my bathroom presumably with the intention of fixing it. BTW - they have expressed their unhappiness about the bath situation before. I actually don't want the shower fixed as it is the only place for the cat's litter tray to live.

Am IBU?

I guess they think they are helping by bringing a shower head along. Could you let them fix it then after they go away revert to using it for cat litter?

CatMandu · 29/12/2008 16:10

So, they can have a proper shower in your ensuite or a shower over the bath in the main bathroom? yet they only want to shower in the broken shower in the main bathroom and have brought a new (non matching) shower head with them?

I'd say they are BU, but probably think they are being helpful. It would annoy me tbh. Even if there was no alternative shower, you have a bath. Why are they being so exacting about where they'll shower?

who are they?

georgimama · 29/12/2008 16:13

I think they are being really rude. When you are a guest in someone's house you adopt, with a sincere smile, whatever facilities they have arranged for you. If it isn't what you're used to at home, tough.

On the other hand, is there no way you could train (not now, but at all) your cat not to use a shower tray for their business? Sounds distinctly unhygienic to me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2008 16:13

i think they were being helpful - would love a friend to bring a shower head for my crappy leaky dribbling shower

are you ever going to get it fixed or will stay the cats toilet forever?

Pennies · 29/12/2008 16:13

your cat litter tray is in the bath??

thisisyesterday · 29/12/2008 16:14

i'm sorry, tyhey've expressed unhappiness about it before????
you're putting them up, and they complain about the frigging shower arrangements????

who are these people???????

how very, very bizarre, and quite rude.
however, if they wanna fix your shower then let them. you don't have to use it after they've gone

mamamakescake · 29/12/2008 16:14

I know georgi - hate the litter tray but the cat is old and won't go outside!

I expect they think they're helping - if they've stayed lots of times and you still haven't had a chance to fix it, they probably think you just don't have the time so they'll help you out by doing it while they're here. Perhaps you haven't made clear that you have no intention of fixing it?

mamamakescake · 29/12/2008 16:16

Litter try is in the SEPERATE shower cubicle. TBH it is the only place where the litter does'nt spill out and end up everywhere.

LynetteScavo · 29/12/2008 16:16

They are going to freak about the cat litter tray in the shower, y'know.

And I bet the cat will be so scared at seeing a shower where s/he normally poos - s/he will start pooing all over the house.

duckyfuzz · 29/12/2008 16:16

they are beign a bit rude, probably don't realise it though

to offer an alternative view point - my brother has a broken shower in his main bathroom, no shower over bath, other shower in his ensuite, so whenever we stay there I find it really tricky as I struggle to wash hair in bath(and its not like he can't afford to fix it, nor does he have a cat )

mamamakescake · 29/12/2008 16:17

Yes, I am going to get DH to have a word abot the arrangements - I feel invaded.

mamamakescake · 29/12/2008 16:18

I could understand it - if there were no adequate washing arrangements but there are.

VisionsOfSugarPlums · 29/12/2008 17:02

OH fgs, where do they think they are, in a hotel? Very, very rude of them to complain. Are they your PILs?

mamamakescake · 29/12/2008 17:10

visions - erm yes. I was trying not to make it in to a PIL thread.

pmsl i was going to ask the same thing earlier, they're the only people who could get off being so rude and repeatedly get asked back lol

mamamakescake · 29/12/2008 17:19

Well Dh has had a word - so hopefully that will be the end of it.

My SIL's house has only a bath in the master bathroom and a shower in the ensuite - it feels very rude to run yourself a bath first thing in the morning, not to mention a waste of water/a faff for hair-washing, and I HATE going in other people's ensuites; it's so personal to walk through someone else's bedroom and see all their stuff lying around. So although I would never complaing, I know how they feel.

mamamakescake · 29/12/2008 17:30

I can see what you mean BADGER, However it is not a hotel but a family home with pets. They are more than welcome to book into the local hotel! I'm not asking them to have a 'personal wash' with a flannel and a sink full of hot water.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2008 17:38

maybe you should leave a bucket, kettle and sponge in theur bedroom

also did wonder if pils

nula · 29/12/2008 17:42

probably trying to be helpful and not intrude on your space (your ensuite).

odd though

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 29/12/2008 18:04

I think you are all quite mad

cat shit in the shower

bringing your own showerhead

you couldn't make it up

bronze · 29/12/2008 18:07

Tell them its the actual shower thats wired up wrong and it needs to be done by an electrician or they could eletrocute themselves. Or fix it so that they would electrocute themselves and let them get on with it.

believer07 · 29/12/2008 18:09

Cat turdys in the bathroom...oh no.

mamamakescake · 29/12/2008 18:11

Yes I know cat poo in the bathroom - not ideal - please don't.
