AIBU to want Father Christmas and not Santa

We all believed in 'Father Christmas' which is our British thing. Just a bit sick of 'Santa' which is American. He's crept up on us.

There was a massive and very funny thread about this last week.

It was established that Father Christmas is used in most of ENGLAND, but in Scotland it is SANTA and has been for generations. In Ireland, it is sometimes Santa adn sometimes Santy.

I will see if I can find .

MoMoMoMeeeeryChristmas · 24/12/2008 20:21

YA so so so NBU! I agree entirely and I'm a bit of a sod for correcting any child or adult that mentions the S word!

VotePedro · 24/12/2008 20:21

YANBU was just saying the same thing to DH.

I think you'll find it quite comprehensively covers the subject.

christmaseve · 24/12/2008 20:25

Been off mumsnet for a while and guessed this had been brought up recently, seriously I'm hacked off about it. Santa says Father Christmas says . I needed to post tonight as I grabbed a good name.

It doesn't bother me what other people call him, but we prefer Father Christmas in our house - it was what I was brought up calling him

christmaseve · 24/12/2008 20:45

Thismuttisetc. Well I care otherwise I wouldn't have started this. Shall we have a little spat over nothing then we can get it out the way before we have Christmas with the family tomorrow . xxx

Sorry for the xxx cannot help it as it's Christmas.

FC all the way. Santa Claus would be shown the door if he turned up here. Upstart!

ilovetochatupsanta · 24/12/2008 21:00

we say santa and so does dd, sorry!

MKG · 24/12/2008 22:01

Why do people care? As long as I get a gift under the tree I don't care who brought it.

Pixiefish · 24/12/2008 22:02

We have Sion Corn here in Wales

piscesmoon · 24/12/2008 22:18

I think they are interchangeable.

TeenyTinyTorya · 24/12/2008 23:49

FairyBasslet · 25/12/2008 00:51

Santa Claus is what we always called him in Scotland. I can't quite bring myself to say Father Christmas as it just doesn't seem right. So no, 'Santa' is not Americanised in my view at all - it's very Scottish.
