We all believed in 'Father Christmas' which is our British thing. Just a bit sick of 'Santa' which is American. He's crept up on us.

I like both

I prefer FC.
Wouldn't correct anyone who said Santa though.
Each to their own.

FC in this house, and dd (aged 4) will happily correct anyone who asks her if Santa is coming.

"No he's not, but Father Christmas is".

Is it true Coca Cola came up with the name Father Christmas and he was always Santa Claus before that?

pantomimEDAMe · 25/12/2008 15:30

He's always been Santa since I was a child and we have never been at all Americanised. I thought Santa was a derivation of St Nicholas.

Shitemum · 26/12/2008 16:10

Father Christmas may be your 'British thing' but in Scotland he is Santa, so hoots mon and up yours!
Don't lump us all in with you, thank you very much, I for one would never refer to myself as British!

There is some connection with Coke and FC/S but I think it's to do with his appearance.
