I work in customer service, both over the telephone and in person. Most of our customers are wealthy people, but the majority are lovely. The other day a lady came in and she had the most gorgeous Radley handbag. She must have seen my checking it out, because as she turned to leave, she muttered 'this is a case of you can look, but you can't touch. on your wage, this kind of thing stays directly in the shop window, darling' and flounced off. I was nothing but my nice, smiling self to her so where that came from, I don't know!

Radley bags are barfing anyway. I would be too embarrassed to leave the house with one.

nancy75 · 21/12/2008 21:12

radley bags are not even that expensive! should have just told her you were surprised to see a customer carrying such cheap tat!

expatinscotland · 21/12/2008 21:14

i'd have started laughing at her and gotten sacked.

because radleys are for old ladies who think they're middle class. they're the biggest saddest con going.

now if she'd had a Mulberry or Balenciaga bag then she'd have been in business.

but a Radley?!

haahaaahaaa.

i wouldn't be caught dead carrying one of those unless you paid me.

ElectraInExcelsis · 21/12/2008 21:15

OMG - what a nasty piece of work.

Actually I heard of a story where Stella Mcartney supposedly said a similar thing to a waitress who was admiring her suit (don't know how true it was).

Radley bags are cr@p anyway imo!

ElectraInExcelsis · 21/12/2008 21:16

Agree with expat!

paolosgirl · 21/12/2008 21:17

I have a Radley - small and v pretty - and bought from the outlet here, so stick it up yer bum. I'm not an old lady but I am middle class.

Balenciaga is a WAG bag

expatinscotland · 21/12/2008 21:18

Exactly, paolo!

With a WAG pricetag, too.

ilovelovemydog · 21/12/2008 21:21

Funny thing is that I know some truly wealthy people - they all seem to be carrying around Cath Kidson Tesco bags

paolosgirl · 21/12/2008 21:21

Absolutely! My one and only trip to Mulberry was in Heathrow - have you seen the price of these things? Does anyone actually pay that kind of money for a bag fgs?

tinselroundtherock · 21/12/2008 21:23

So samey these days...

27 · 21/12/2008 21:23

How strange.
Radly bags arent even that expensive. What an odd woman.

TheSeriousSanta · 21/12/2008 21:27

You should have told her that Radley isn't that expensive and that you have far more exclusive bags in your collection.

Radley is pretty bloody ordinary, in the handbag stakes.... If you are going to throw it about, you need something far more expensive than Radley.

The silly cow had no manners and no idea either...

TheSeriousSanta · 21/12/2008 21:28

Ooops, Just realised I was a bit late with the 'Radley aren't even that nice' comment...

Mulberry get my vote, everytime, but even they are low res considering how much some bags cost these days...

TheSeriousSanta · 21/12/2008 21:30

ANd, Paolosgirl, yes, I do pay that much for a handbag - they are great quality and last forever (Mulberry mend any defects for free).

I have loads of different ones and just adore them.

Ronaldinhio · 21/12/2008 21:31

Do you mean those horrid bads with the little dog on them?

YABVU

How dare you covet this bag?

boak

tiredsville · 21/12/2008 21:40

I have paid embarrasing amounts on bags, but this is all coming to an end as I have decided it is morally wrong.

DoubleBluff · 21/12/2008 21:43

Hhahahaha.
She thinks she s all that with a Radley bag?
That is so gunny.
Stick your little dog fob up your arse love!!!
Don't feel bothered by it.

shopaholicDIVA · 21/12/2008 21:44

radley is joke. im proud owner of expensive bag collection im not wag or posh.
i will be LOL ,too

paolosgirl · 21/12/2008 21:49

They mend and defects for free???

Santa - a bag that expensive is not supposed to have defects!!!

If you're happy to spend a couple of grand or whatever on a piece of leather (with or without defects) then there's not a lot to be said really

poshwellies · 21/12/2008 21:52

Radley?

HA HA

Radley is shite imo,Debenhams sells the crap.

TheSeriousSanta · 21/12/2008 21:54

Paolosgirl - You try taking any leather bag and putting it in the hold of an aircraft twice a week, every week and see how it fares.

That's what my DH does. (He commutes to Russia, weekly). And Mulberry have never questioned when we've contacted them about marks or scratches or faults (mostly never to do with Mulberry themselves).

Their service deparment is wonderful

Cupofteaplease · 21/12/2008 21:59

I love my Radley bag, and I'm only 26 so not old!

However, I certainly don't think it's anything special to be admired by sales staff!

paolosgirl · 21/12/2008 22:02

Ummm...why don't you just buy a hardside suitcase?

TheSeriousSanta · 21/12/2008 22:08

Because Mulberry is nicer. Standards must be maintained
